The official visit of Goldenrod and Floral Chapters was held on Tuesday the 24th and there were lots of members present.  Genevieve and Durwin Moore presented a very brief and funny skit and the refreshments were first rate.

GRAND REPRESENTATIVE OF WYOMING

LaNita and I traveled to Port Orchard and at their OV and during the presentation of the Worker Bees Grand Adah (Cindy Schneider) jumped in and said she wanted to play a game because she has been house bound for the last couple of weeks due to the weather so we played "Let's Make a Deal" and the Grand Prize was the Grand Representative commission of Wyoming to Betty Schenewerk. All the worker bees got a little prize.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE OF DELAWARE

Tuesday evening, January 24th, I had the pleasure of attending the Friendship Night at Amethyst Chapter #138 where I presented the Grand Representative of Delaware Commission to Sister Nancy Lambert. (She is Secretary of Amethyst so her address is in the Blue Book.)

Traveling with me were Phyllis Hippler, FGR-Delaware, Lillian Gallion, FGR-California, and Bill Davis, my Escort. There were several other current or former Grand Representatives present, including Gail Nickerson, also FGR-Delaware.

With Sister Nancy being Chapter Secretary, I used both Phyllis (a former secretary) and Gail (current secretary) in the presentation.

The Current Grand Reps were introduced as usual. Then in my response, I asked all of the FGRs to stand - as my "special friends" (since it was Friendship night). Then with a few questions, eliminated all but Phyllis and Gail - who were the "last ones standing". I asked them to step to the East, and gave them a secret word - SECRETARY- and sent them out to search among all of our Friends to find the right person and bring her to the East.

Sister Nancy was presented the Certificate of her Commission, then a rubber BLUE HEN CHICKEN - the Delaware State Bird; and finally the actual Grand Representative Pin - which also is a Blue Hen Chicken -- a very nice one!!

Nancy was truly excited and ended up doing "The Chicken Dance" (impromptu music by the oh-so-talented Nancy O'Neill), which will likely become her new theme song.

LAKESIDE CHAPTER RESCHEDULED MEETING

Change of Location for EWGR Club

We will meet on Friday, January 27, 2012, [weather permitting] at The Golden Corral at 7117 North Division Street (south of COSTCO) at 12:00 Noon. This is a different time and we will have to be out by 2:00 P.M. This should still give us time to hold our meeting, discuss business, have our meal and drawing without rushing anyone.

It was a fun night at Bianbridge Island as WGM Gloria with WGP Frank had their OV for Poulsbo Chapter.  Some people were a little late because they went to Poulsbo first, but everyone enjoyed the evening.

Jan 12 - OV of Mt. Baker and Cyrene Chapters

The Chapter room at Mt. Baker was filled to capacity - over 100 members - for the OV of Mt. Baker and Cyrene Chapters.  Just as Mt Baker was going to turn over things to Cyrene, Grand Conductress Stephanie Hoye took everyone to Georgia with the announcememt of Joyce Dillard as the new Grand Representative of Georgia in Washington.  It was a wonderful evening and everyone was thrilled for Joyce.

Jan 14 - Reception for Rodger Collins, Grand Sentinel

It was a very fun afternoon in Marysville as Afton Chapter celebrated their own member Grand Sentinel Rodger Collins.  It started with a delicious luncheon cooked by the Starlight Grand Family and served by the Maplettes and Forget me nots Deputies.  Rodger showed us all what a great sense of humor he has during his speech and everyone really enjoyed the day.  The weather didn't cooperate, so many had to leave early, but we all had a wonderful day.

ANOTHER NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

The Associate Matron & Dresden Star Deputy Instructor, LYNETTE ZIERDEN of GRAND COULEE DAM CHAPTER received the Commission of Grand Representative of Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island in Washington on Thursday, January 12, 2012. The Associate Grand Patron, Bob Breeza and Grand Warder, Shirley Armstrong cooperated in this endeavor involving the past Grand Representatives and the accuracy of their memory.

New Grand Representative

Last night at the OV for Mount Baker and Cyrene Chapters I took everyone on a trip to Georgia. After informing them that there were many interesting facts about the state and some strange laws, I asked the assistance of the Mt. Baker members. They were given facts about Georgia to read aloud and in between each fact I read one of the strange laws - like: donkeys are not allowed in bathtubs, and in Atlanta it's illegal to tie your giraffe to a street sign or light pole.

When I gave the organist her slip to read, she couldn't do it - so I read if for her: "Joyce Dillard is the new Grand Representative of Georgia in Washington"! The news was greeted with cheers and applause as I escorted her to the East and formally introduced her. She received balloons and peaches and lots of hugs. After the meeting she was still stunned!

There were three past Grand Representatives of Georgia present - Retha Baird, Pat Dean and Gerry Ellen Sleeth. It was a wonderful evening and everyone is very pleased for Joyce.

TWO NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVES

I had the privilege of attending Tacoma Chapter Friends’ Night Jan 11^th to present the Grand Representative commission for New Jersey to Brother William ‘Bill’ Miller.

I used the “State” song to introduce the jurisdiction. If you don’t know the song it uses a state to ask a question and another one to answer that question. For example: the question might be “What did Idaho?” and the answer would be “She hoed her Maryland.” Several members were given cards with state names and as each question was asked, the person with the appropriate state name would stand up then sit back down. When the question was “What did Delaware?” Brother Bill stood up with the answer, “New Jersey” but instead of sitting back down, the conductress escorted him to the East for introduction. In attendance were: 4 PGM and PGP; 3 Grand Officers; 3 present and several former Grand Representatives.

I traveled to Evening Star Chapter in Almira, WA to present a Grand Representative Commission to Yvaughn Carstensen, to the State of Arkansas.

Grand Ruth Janice Glidden had a HUGE Oversized Coffee Cup Planter filled with all things Arkansas, even to their Flag. Fun questions were asked to everyone present and then the Conductress escorted Yvaughn to the East where she was presented her Cup of Joy and Love from our beautiful Grand Chapter of Washington and our WGM Gloria and WGP Frank and their Grand Officers.

There were 3 Past Grand Matrons present, 3 appointed Grand Officer: Pat Scales, Grand Electa, Shirley Armstrong, Grand Warder and myself Janice Glidden, Grand Ruth; 3 Grand Representatives and one Worthy Patron. After the meeting we took allot of pictures and there were 16 Former Grand Representatives present. 9 Eastern Star members accompanied Janice to Almira. Fun was had by all. Delightful evening.

Sad News

Some sad news to report:

PGP Phil and Leslie Green's daughter passed away early this morning.

Supreme Inspector Barbara Brown's brother passed away this morning.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Lots of prayers needed!

This concerns Anita Borst of Evening Star Chapter in Almira, she was Grand Ruth in 2010-2011. Her husband Phil Borst is the Grand Representative to Vermont.

Anita has dealt with severe and rare health issues for the last few years. She was in the hosiptal just before Christmas. She was sent home with oxygen. She is not able to do anything. I talked with her sister-in-law, Kathleen Miller, past Grand Esther. She says it is not looking good. Anita has absolutely no strength at all. She has Shingles in her eyes and had pheumonia while in the hospital. Her birthday is the same day as her brother's, Daryl Miller. She was unable to attend the party.

Please keep both Phil and especially Anita in your prayers. They are definately needed.

First, many of you may not have heard about Phil and Leslie Green's daughter. While I have shared the information with our five Grand Families, I have not made this as a general information item. The time has come to share. 

Over the Christmas weekend, their daughter, Melissa (a member of Grand Coulee Dam Chapter) was hospitalized with acute hepatitis, liver and kidney failure. Greens were in VA with son Kelly and his family. They caught the first flight they could manage which wasn't until 2:30AM Friday. They arrived in Spokane mid-day Friday and have been at Melissa's side virtually 24 hours a day since then. By New Years weekend she had deteriorated to a point of no response and bodily functions shutting down. This past Thursday the Drs. felt she only had hours to live. She was moved to a Hospice House this afternoon which is a better setting for the family and the Hospice staff, counselors, Drs. and minister have been a great help to them.

It is unbelievable that these two special people are once again hit with tragedy. While prayers for Melissa's recovery are virtually too late, prayers for the Green family are really needed to help them through this ordeal. When Melissa passes, there will only be a family service to be followed by a "memorial picnic" later for family and friends to share their memories of Melissa, a beautiful and vivacious young woman. I will continue to share information as things change.

It was a wonderful day for a reception and the turnout for our Associate Grand Conductress Mary Ann Fergusson was outstanding.  There were lambs and Scottie dogs everywhere.  The Evergreen Grand Family cooked a delicious lunch and the Lake City Presbyterian Church was filled with members and friends who came to honor the AGC and to enjoy the afternoon.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

The Magician, Cindy Schneider, Grand Adah, pulled some magic and presented a commission to: Kendall Spridgeon as Grand Representative of New Mexico in Washington at the January 5th Official Visit at Crown Chapter.. Kendal is currently the Treasurer of Crown Chapter in West Seattle.

It was my pleasure tonight to present a commission at Belfair Chapter.

To make things fun (after the Bible was closed) I selected six ladies to come to the East. I hung a sign around each of their necks that said "The ONLY answer is NO, YES or MAYBE" - on the back of them I pinned a different sign. One sign said Sarah Palin; another was Nancy Regan; 3) Dolly Parton; 4) Little Red Riding Hood; 5) Shirley Temple; 6) Grand Representative of Utah.

They had about four minutes to walk around the membership, show them the signs on their back and then ask questions trying to determine who they were supposed to be. The only answer the membership could give was YES, NO, or MAYBE. The only one who guessed who they were supposed to be was WGM Gloria since the sign on her back was 'Little Red Riding Hood' and someone managed to give it away.

When all was said and done, the ladies came back to the east and as I placed my hand over each of their heads the membership was to clap to indicate who had done the best job. Naturally the loudest and most enthusiastic clapping was for WM Pam Rookard, the new Grand Representative of Utah!

In attendance were two current Grand Representatives, two former Grand Representatives of Utah; and numerous former Grand Representatives.

It appeared a fun time was had by all.

2012 - Jan 2 OV at Chehalis and Centralia

What fun we had at the OV in Chehalis as the first announcement of the new year was made.  Betty Sipp was absolutely flabbergasted to learn she was the new Grand Representative of North Dakota and everyone was delighted.  It was a great evening that started with a deliciousl dinner for a donation and ended with yummy cupcakes.

Help Wanted!

We are looking for some people that would like to be on the Evergreen News committee, specifically we need an Editor and Co-Editor.  Those doing it now have been on the committee for several years and do not care to go on next year, which is understandable. They would be willing to lend some assistance to whoever takes over.  The one hurdle is that the Evergreen News is done in Publisher, which is a wonderful program if you know how to use it.

They had a great time at the Bellingham Country Club as the Whatcom County Past Matrons welcomed the WGM and Grand Family to their annual December luncheon.  Entertainment was once again provided by the incredible Bellingham High School Chorus and everyone enjoyed a great day.

The room was filled with beautiful tables decorated by our members with their own linens, dishes and decorations. The evening started with a delicious dinner and was followed by a wonderful official visit as the WGM and WGP and many others visited Stanwood Chapter for their official visit.  The Starlights were dressed to honor Past Grand Electa Ann Taylor, and everyone had plenty of fun.  One sad note - we learned that Jennie Kelly's 100 year old mother passed away Monday.

Sad news - update

Services for Grace Lindal, (Kathy’s granddaughter) will be at 6 pm on Friday, December 9^th at the First Presbyterian Church in Everett, 2936 Rockefeller Ave (cross street is Wall).

The family has requested attire for the memorial service to be cheerful and upbeat (no black). Also in lieu of flowers the family will be setting up a program through the Boeing Credit Union that will benefit the G.R.A.C.I.E. Fund for the Everett School District for their reading assistance program. Information regarding contributions to the fund and complete details are pending and will be available soon.

Although Grace had been declared brain dead yesterday morning she was still on the ventilator to keep her breathing because of the request to be an organ donor. There were a couple of evaluations that needed to be done by the doctors and certain levels in the body that needed to be reached before they could take the organs. Unfortunately Grace’s heart stopped beating at 2:51 this morning and because of that and a number of other medical complications she is not going to be able to be an organ donor.

Sad News

Dear Friends,
Thank you for your prayers for Grace Lindall, but God had other plans for her.  She has been declared brain dead and will now be helping others by giving her organs so others may live.

PRAYERS NEEDED!

From Cheri Moll:

Kathy Neubecker’s granddaughter Grace, age 8, is in ICU at Harborview Hospital and is not expected to live. She needs all the prayers you have.

Grace has a blood disorder called ITP, which involves two processes, the destruction of existing platelets and the inadequate production of platelets.

She was unresponsive yesterday morning so they called the aid car and they were on the way to Children’s but the EMT’s decided that she needed to get to a hospital sooner so they took her to Swedish in Mountlake Terrace and from there, after a CT scan, took her directly to Harborview. Her platelet count was very low and they immediately put her on an IV of a medication to increase the count. The scan reveled that there was bleeding on the brain and the doctors said that she needed surgery, but the platelet count needed to be up around 80,000 to 100,000 in order to operate. Late last night the count was at 150,000 so they performed the surgery, which was to drill 2 holes in her head to drain the fluid. Because of the location of the blood clot, deep center of the brain, they were not able to operate on it. The surgeons were hopeful following the surgery and said that everything went as planned, for the drainage, and that she would need to stay in the hospital for around 10 days.

Around midnight Kathy called to say that the eyes were not responding to light and that they were going to run some tests. She called me at 4:30 this morning to say that Grace was still alive but that they don’t think that she will make it through the day.

2011 - Dec 3 - CORE Fun Night

What a great time we all had on Saturday, Dec 3rd at the Lake City Elks as the Way Past Their Prime Time Players had us all laughing and singing along with their star studded show.

Ed Sullivan (who looked suspiciously like Don McAmmond) served as master of ceremonies and we were entertained by Willie Nelson, The Supremes, Sonny and Cher,  Karen Carpenter, Dolly Parton, Elvis, The Big Bopper, The Village People, Madonna, Abba and George Strait.

Sad News from Belfair/Waconda

Message from Kathy Hutton, daughter of Margaret & Bill Pollak ~

To all friends and family, Margaret Pollak (born March 25, 1928, in Ohid, Hungary) was admitted to the hospital on November 18th after choking on apple pie. Her heart stopped and she was revived but there was still apple in her lungs. The doctors didn’t think she would make it that night, but Mom being stubborn and feisty, hung on until the night of Nov. 22nd, when she peacefully passed on to be with her husband Bill. Margaret & Bill were Worthy Matron & Worthy Patron of Waconda #217 in 2003-04 and traveled widely throughout the state to represent their chapter and Eastern Star. When Waconda merged with Belfair in April 2008, Margaret became a member of Belfair #241, but moved to Longview within the year to be near her daughter Kathy. Information about services and where to send condolences will be posted shortly.

2011 - Dec 2 OV Delta and Pyramid

80 members gathered in Federal Way for the OV of Delta and Pyramid Chapters.  After a delicious baked potato dinner, Delta Chapter officers did a wonderful job of the long form opening.  WP Richard Moulden of Pyramid did an excellent presentation of the signs and passes and we all had fun singing Christmas carols.

2011 - Dec 1 - OV Tyler

They had a great time at Tyler Chapter's official visit on Thursday, December 1st.  They had a delicious chicken dinner before the meeting and everyone had a great time.
