NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

Tonight, Thursday, October 10th, I traveled to Bethel Chapter in Granite Falls. I told everyone I was visiting different Chapters in the area. At each Chapter I would have a drawing for a little gift to show my appreciation. I gave everyone, who attended a ticket but I memorized the ticket number of the new Grand Representative. I stirred the tickets in the bag and drew one out, saying his number. Bryan Bechler, the junior Past Patron, was the winner. I asked permission of the Worthy Matron to have him escorted to the East to receive his gift bag. When he opened the bag, he was very surprised trying to take in all that just happened. I pinned on his pin and introduced him as the new Grand Representative of Texas. I gave him his certificate from the Worthy Grand Matron of Texas and other information. There were pictures taken afterwards with 7 other former Grand Representatives. Luella Stephens, Occidental Chapter, the former Grand Representative of Texas, came to congratulate him.

New Grand Representative

September 6th was a glorious Homecoming OV for Junior Past Grand Matron, Gerry Mosler.
The room was filled to capacity and you could “feel the love”.
All things were going according to protocol until Kathi Dewey, Grand Adah, interrupted the introductions of the Grand Representatives.
Claiming that she was the night’s entertainment, she donned a sombrero and began speaking in Spanish.
This was quickly halted by WM Kate Kalmbach and (in English) sister Pat Chapin, of Lakeside Chapter, was announced as the newest Grand Representative of  Boliva in Washington.  Whoo Hoo… oops…Ole!

Update on Marilyn Bordner

Marilyn Bordner started waking up from the coma yesterday (July 26th).  It sounds like they verified it was a seizure, not a stroke, or an aneurysm.  They think it is probably reversible – but she is looking at a lot of physical therapy.  We don’t know about her eye sight – that wasn’t mentioned in the voice mail.  They took her off all her pain meds – so she is in pain and is starting to thrash around a lot because of that.  She does have the nurses with her all the time as she is still in ICU. A lot of prayers and good wishes are still needed for her and for Bill.   --Update from Marilyn Schafer via Betty Hughes

Prayers Needed

Marilyn Bordner, former Grand Representative of Bolivia, and Secretary of Spokane Chapter,  is in the hospital in Spokane.   She is in ICU and can’t have visitors.  She has been in Sacred Heart since Sunday, July 14th.  We understand she may have had seizures and they had to induce a comma.  Prior to inducing the comma, she lost her eye sight.  It is a very sad and scary situation and we don’t really know what to expect.  The doctors are not sure what is wrong, but we are requesting prayers for her and for the doctors to be able to determine what is going on.  Also prayers for her husband, Bill, while he waits to find out what is happening.  I’m sure “Thinking Of You” cards sent to their home would be appreciated for Bill. Their address is in the Blue Book under Spokane Chapter.

OES Charity Golf Tournament

If for whatever reason you didn't get your golf team registered or signed up for the BBQ you still have a few more hours to get information to Chairmen--Bill & Alice Hammontree.  Contact them by phone (253-922-1288) or email abhammon@comcast.net by 12 noon on Monday, July 22nd.  They will need the following for each civilian so passes can be obtained from JBLM.  First, Middle & Last Name (same as it shows on driver's license); date of birth (month/date/year); driver's license number; last 4 digits of SSN.  You can send the actual form with your check later in the week but they need the above info to turn into the pass office by Monday.  Later registrations will be accepted BUT those people will need to go to the visitor's pass office the day of the tournament to get permission to get on JBLM.  Of course anyone in a car going on JBLM with the driver of the vehicle having military ID can get on that way.

New Grand Representatives!!

OHIO--
Tonight, Thursday, June 6, 2013, the commission to Ohio was presented to Willie Winstead of Lackamas Chapter in Washougal.  Willie’s wife Eileen was recently announced as the incoming Grand Marshal so he was brought to the East to take the “escort test”.  At the end I congratulated him on passing the test and for being our new Grand Representative of Ohio.
Marcia Haukaas, Grand Treasurer

VERMONT--
Third times a charm, that’s what they say,
And, by golly, it turned out that way!

On Thursday, June 6, I traveled to Alderwood Chapter in Everett where I had the distinct pleasure of presenting the commission of Grand Representative of Vermont to Sister Shirley King, Past Matron of Stanwood Chapter.  Sister Shirley was stunned when I approached her, and I escorted her to the East to a standing ovation.  Vermont’s Grand Chapter started on Thursday, and I told Shirley that if she and Brother Bob (her husband/escort) were quick enough, they could catch a midnight flight and be in Vermont in time for introductions today!  Congratulations to Shirley!

New Grand Representative

OKLAHOMA--
This is to let you know that Jim Iversen, Grand Sentinel and I traveled to Ballard last evening (June 5th) to present the commission of Grand Representative of Oklahoma to Sister Arlene Strong of Occidental Chapter.
We played a game of "Name That State" with different folks, giving them token rewards when they guessed the clues correctly.  Arlene's clue was "What state sounds like the large tree that grows from an acorn?"  After a bit of coaching, she guessed Oklahoma and instead of an acorn,   Jim presented her with the Oklahoma Grand Representative pin.    She was very surprised and pleased.
There was a large representation of past and present Grand Representatives in attendance.

Bowling Fun Day

An amazing group of hearty souls braved snow and rain on April 7th to meet in Ellensburg at the Rodeo Bowl for the 5th annual Bowling Fundraiser. There were five teams registered this year, but only four were able to come. (Vern, Judy, and Mary Ann Herrst had out of state company and had to miss this year.) All together 19 bowlers competed as we played one game of regular bowling and one game of nine pin no tap. Scores were determined while we took a break for lunch and then played a game of Scotch Doubles. The high scoring team (without handicap) was the Spokane Guys and a Gal. Team members are Phil Green, Dick Weigel, John Chamberlain, Bill Weigel, and Bonnie Rail. High scorer (without handicap) was John Chamberlain, and Rebecca Fleishman was the high scorer (with handicap). The Lewis Ladies of Faith team took top place (with handicap). Members on this team are Karen Karnes, Rebecca Fleishman, and Lynn Tebbutt. This year they brought a friend, Lindsey. Other teams competing were: WGM’s Gals with team members Gerry Mosler, Jill Okicich, Janna Hagerty, and Jamie Mosler, and Alley Oops with team members Sharon Singleton, Ray Berrian, and Marjorie Bamford. Last minute entries were Billie Abers, JoDee DeRosier (Grand Marshal), Scott, and Lindsey. They were each assigned to one of the other teams.
Several Grand Officers stopped by during the day to add encouragement and share lots of laughter. WGP Bob and escort Nancy; AGP Rodger and escort Helen; GC Mary Ann; and Grand Martha, Jean Ballard. Thanks to everyone who came to bowl and to those who came to support us. Not only was money added to the Grand Chapter funds, but those who attended had a fun time. Plans for next year are underway for a bigger and better tournament!
Thanks to PGP Dennis Okicich for taking pictures of this event. Watch for them soon on the blog.

New Grand Representative of Iowa

Well I did it.  I gave Nancy Huntley of Poulsbo Chapter #235 the Grand Representative commission to the great state of Iowa tonight!

My little skit was comprised of Nancy, Jr. P.P, Bob and Virginia and myself.  The Marshal handed out words for a song about fun days to the tune of School Days to everyone, except for the four of us and we were standing in front of the East.  The sheet I gave to the four of us had words starting out with the same tune and then it got all mixed up with one about fun days, one about the light the night walk and Nancy’s with some info on Iowa.  Once everyone was really confused, I apologized and stated I had been working on several projects this week and apparently got everything all mixed up.  So I got the information I had taken along and gave a sheet of info on Fun Days to Bob to look over and comment and one on Light the Night Walk to Ginny to look over and comment and then I gave Nancy the folder on the Grand Rep commission and when she opened it and started to read it, I then introduced her as the new G.R. to Iowa.  She was sooo excited as well as everyone there.  Of course, everyone told me later they knew it was going to be her.  How they know is beyond me!!!

Nancy was thrilled that the commission is from Iowa as she has OES friends and other friends in Iowa.  She said when she goes to their Grand Chapter; she will have to go for more than the 3 days, more like 3 weeks!

I had a great time!  Even got to sit in the East!!

New Grand Representative

I (Sandra K Henry, Grand Secretary) traveled to Analia Chapter in Edmonds last night (March 7th) and presented Jan Etchison with the commission as Grand Representative of Maine.
For the presentation I asked Grand Officer's and Escorts in attendance to assist me (Stephanie; Rodger; Helen, Don & Jan). I asked Stephanie to give each of them an envelope and said so all could hear - that I didn't care who got what. Privately I'd asked Stephanie to make sure that Jan got Envelope #5.
I then read some fact about Maine - such as they make 90% of the world's toothpicks, and then had each envelope opened and read. In the envelope was a card, the outside of the card had a different interesting fact about Maine - such as it's illegal to walk down a street in a certain Maine city when playing a violin. When they opened to the inside of the envelope there was a comment from me like "I don't know if the new Grand Representative of Maine can play a violin but I do know that she, or is it a he, is very proficient at the 'mouth' harp."
When we got to envelope #5 the front of the card had a summation of all the comments about the new Grand Representative and inside was the name. Jan only got through two of the summation points before she looked startled, then looked at me, turned red, opened the envelope and started crying.
It was very satisfying and fun!!!
Thank you, WGM Gerry, for the honor of making this appointment.
We had 9 former Grand Representatives in attendance including Ken Taylor, and his wife Ann, the junior past Grand Representative of Maine.
