Vote to win air miles for Shriners Hospitals:

Aloha from John Grobler, MWGP, and Barbara Grober, Secretary to MWGP:

While visiting the Honolulu Shriner's Hospital, we learned that United Airlines has a mileage giveaway contest for charities.  Whichever charity gets the most "votes" on this website, will be given 10 million miles.  The contest runs in December until December 25 and anyone and everyone can log into it and vote for their favorite charity......lots are listed; right now Shriners is in 3rd place (last year they won 1st place in this contest and divided the 10 million miles among several of their hospitals).  We can help this year (for the next 12 days) by getting the word out to all of our members to go to the website printed below and vote every day for the Shrine Hospital charity.  One can vote from any where you can log into the internet.  Please get the word out to all our members and we can help the Shriners!  Remember the contest ends December 25th.

Special Hotel Rates

Nadine Weatherby works for a hotel management company that has some hotels in Burlington, Sumner and Chehalis.  She was able to negotiate a pretty good room rate for our Masonic members, friends and family. These rates are in effect until March 31st at which time she will need to renegotiate with her boss. She hopes to sell lots of rooms so that he will be inclined to extend the rate (or not raise it considerably) further into the year.

At the Candlewood Suites in Burlington, you can get a $60 rate, and at the Holiday Inn Expresses in Chehalis and Sumner, you can get a $79 rate. You don't have to be an Eastern Star member to get these rates. They are available by simply calling the hotel directly and asking for the "Eastern Star" rate. Following is each hotel's information:
Candlewood Suites; I-5 Exit 229; 1866 S. Burlington Blvd, Burlington, WA; 360-755-3300
Holiday Inn Express; I-5 Exit 77; 730 NW Liberty Pl, Chehalis, WA; 360-740-1800
Holiday Inn Express; Hwy 167 Exit 24; 2500 - 136th Ave Ct E, Sumner, WA; 360-299-0205

Please give her a call if you have any questions.

On December 10th at noon when Kristen was home for lunch, Ada Grimstead's house burnt down. Ada is Nancy Peterson's mother, Ada is 97 and has full time caretakers. Kristen Peterson, Nancy's daughter, lives with her grandma. Ada, Kristen, the caretaker and two dogs got out safely. The 3 cats did not make it. King County Traveling Gavel - Stolen!!!

21 members of Occidental Chapter descended on Analia Chapter with the sole purpose of stealing the King County traveling gavel.  Even the Worthy Grand Matron was in on the caper.  Fortunately, the members of Analia are peace loving people and chose not to fight for the gavel, so WM Jamie Mosler and WP Terry Mosler took the gavel to its new temporary home in Ballard.  It was a fun evening preceded by a delicious potluck dinner with hors d'oeurves provide by the members of Richmond Highlands Rainbow Assembly.

OES ANNUAL FUN DAY

To All Masonic Families
Our Annual Fun Day is planned for June 1, 2013, 8am to 3pm at the Tumwater Masonic Lodge, 521 North ST SE, Tumwater, and we need your HELP.
We are asking you to go through your closets and dig out all the formals, tuxedos and street clothes that are taking up unwanted space. We do ask that all items be clean and in good condition. Most dresses and suits will sell for five dollars or less each. There will be a few racks of higher prices, but still very affordable.
We will have a Penny Auction, Wet Sponge Toss, Books and Baked goods for sale. The Grand Officers will be in charge of the Penny (Quarter) Auction table. You can also give them your clothing you wish to sell, and they will get these items to one of the Fun Day Committee members.
You won’t want to miss the pancake breakfast, or the BBQ lunch - HAMBURGERS, AND HOT DOGS grilled by our Worthy Grand Patron. There will also be an Ice Cream booth and a beverage booth, so we promise you won’t go hungry.
In addition, this year we’re inviting our youth groups to join us. They may participate in any way they wish, i.e. car washes, Grand Officer handmade items, etc. and all of those proceeds will go directly to their projects.
Please contact me if you have questions.

2012 General Grand Chapter in Ft. Worth

We had a great time in Ft. Worth at General Grand Chapter and especially enjoyed seeing our own PGM John Grobler go from Acting MWGP to Most Worthy Grand Patron, and our PGM Joy Lough installed as Worthy Grand Ruth along with all of our GG Committee members.  There were over 50 Washington members there.

We started off with a fun day at the Stockyards capped off with a BBQ and rodeo (the cows won)!  Then it was on to the many festivities of General Grand:  Estarl Service, Memorial, Youth introductions, business, resolutions, closing and installation!  That doesn't include the endless meals and social time.  It was wonderful.

One resolution of note that was adopted:  first and second female cousins of Master Masons can now join.  It's not as much as we hoped to accomplish, but I'm sure many of you can find some cousins who want to join and it didn't say how many times removed they could be.

My pictures are below in order by the date they were taken.  Took them all with my phone, so the quality might not be as great as the ones Rodger will be sending soon, but it will give you some idea of the goings on.

Jim Zachau update

Jim Zachau is home and resting, but not allowed to lift anything over 5 lbs, and facing an 8-week recovery.  Please send cards to Jim at PO Box 2070, Belfair, 98528. Please do not telephone the home as the ringing phone is stressing Jim out and wearing Bernice out. Please direct phone calls about his welfare to Jane Wold at 360-598-3411, who is their Social and Health Care Secretary at this time J.  Also please do not drop in without arranging a visit through Jane. And, finally, remember that poor Bernice is home nursing a cranky husband and she needs our prayers & loving thoughts, and she will let us know when she needs relief.

Airport transportation for General Grand Chapter.

FYI - For those of you going to General Grand Chapter, there is a much better rate for ground transportation to the Omni Hotel from the airport if you go to the Omni's website rather than the GGC website.  Select Guest Services on the left and scroll to the bottom and go the link for Go Yellow Check Shuttle Service.  Or click here, to be directed to the page.  Don't get caught at the airport with no reservation.

Grand Conductress Reception

What a great time we all had at the reception for our Grand Conductress Mary Ann Fergusson.  It was a true Apple Cup rivalry and the big beneficiary was the food bank.

There was some bad news - a couple of coats walked away without their owners and one got left at the altar:
Missing:
l.  Purple, Columbia, Husky/DAWGS fleece jacket, Size L
2. Black raincoat/tan cuffs on sleeves and collar. This coat DOES NOT HAVE a lining. The one I have here does have a lining.
3. Also left behind, a gray sweatshirt.
Contact Mary Ann for information about the coats.

And a message from Mary Ann:

THANK YOU....for responding to the Apple Cup Food Bank Drive held at the reception on October 13th. RESULTS ARE:

APPLE CUP goes to Coug's
Donations: Mounds of food for both teams
Monetary donations:
COUGS: $153.00
HUSKIES: $ 40.00
OTHER: $ 10.00

Thank you to JoDee Derosier, Grand Marshal, who took the Coug food and monetary donation to Eastern Washington Food Bank.

love,
Mary Ann Ferguson, Gr. Conductress

Proceeds from AGM & AGP Luncheon

It is my pleasure to announce that we raised $3,000 at the Luncheon/Reception of the AGM and AGP for our youth groups.  It will be divided as follows:

To the three youth groups who helped with set up, tear down and provided great entertainment:
$250 to Edmonds Rainbow Assembly #55
$250 to Edmonds Bethel #5
$250 to Henry M. Jackson DeMolay

To our Washington State Youth Organizations:
$750 to WA/ID Rainbow Foundation
$750 to Jobie Weekend
$750 to DeMolay Convention Scholarship Fund

To clear up any misconceptions, ALL of the expenses of the luncheon including venue, food and decorations were paid for by Analia Chapter, Afton Chapter, Rodger and Helen Collins and me.  Every penny that was raised from luncheon donations and raffle basket sales goes directly to the youth groups.

Thank you so much to everyone who attended and donated.

Hugs!

More PIX and Thanks for AGM & AGP Reception

Thank you to everyone who attended our reception on Saturday for the Assoc. Grand Matron and Assoc. Gand Patron. We had a great time. We estimate there were about 325 people there and so appreciate our three youth groups for all their help and their fantastic entertainment.

We don't have a final count of the donations yet, because we've had a few people who were't able to be there say they still wanted to donate to our youth groups, so we are waiting til the end of the week to do the final tally and get the checks out.

Again, thank you! After being sick for a week, it was a fantastic way to get back to civilization!
Hugs!

New Grand Representative

What a great evening last night at Cedar Chapter when I presented a Grand Representative of Illinois commission to Sister Johanna Langlow.  Irene Jacobs stood up and was so excited thinking she was the recipient until she remembered she had already been a Grand Officer last year! Well she sat down and Terry Cramer, Grand Warder stood next to Johanna and asked her to come with her to the East!  Oh my she was really surprised and the tears flowed!
I presented her with several John Deer items because its the home of John Deer to include a lunchbox and hat!
All the members of Cedar Chapter were happy for their most devoted member!

Tuesday Sept 25th Analia Chapter went to Doric Chapter intent on taking away the King County traveling gavel.  It was a tight race as Occidental Chapter had the same intention, but Analia had one member more than Occidental, so the traveling gavel will now rest in Edmonds until another Chapter steals it away.  It was a very special night because the members of Friendship-Rose Chapter in Portland were there visiting and the Past Most Worthy Grand Patron and Worthy Associate Grand Conductress of Australia were also there for a visit.  Everyone had a great time.

Update on Joe Ivey, PGP of Arizona

Hello Everyone,
I guess it's about time I sent out an update on Joe.  It's been almost 2 months since we left Seattle to return him home to Prescott.  We managed the trip well, and after getting settled in, we were able to get him to Arizona's Grand Chapter, August 1st and enjoy his Honors both Thursday Afternoon and Evening for being not only Arizona's Senior Past Grand Patron, but for serving 50 years ago!   He enjoyed his time there and the visits he had with many old friends.  The 3 Ivey "Kids" made a presentation to Grand Chapter of a new American Flag in his Honor. The rest of  his family was all there too, to help in the celebration and also to celebrate his 89th birthday which was  the 13th of August.  He survived all the festivities with a little rest now and then.
Since then we have had a few short outings, just to get him out and about, but he does get tired easily.  He has been on oxygen now for about a month, and gets weaker as time goes by.  Hospice here is just as wonderful as they were in Seattle and he is getting very good care;  the nurse comes every week, and the social worker every 2 weeks, or when we need something, and the chaplain comes whenever we need him, and he visits, sings hymns, prays with us, and even brings communion.  He saw the kidney Dr yesterday, and so far, his kidneys are holding up well, considering the Congestive Heart Failure, and the amount of diuretics he has been taking.  He had blood work yesterday for the Congestive Heart Failure  and the results show that his heart is failing even more, and he will have up days and down days as he gets weaker.  He is using his walker all the time now, while his legs are still able to support him.  His daughter Judie is here with me again, and we are doing our best to see that he is comfortable, and see that he does what he wants as long as he is able.  He looks forward everyday for the mailman to come, so if anyone would like to send a card, I know he would deeply appreciate reading them.   Address is:
912 Old Stage Rd, Prescott AZ 86303  .....  And prayers are especially welcome.
Phone 928-776-9351  sometimes he may not want to talk,
Carmen Ivey

Clarification for October 6 Luncheon/reception

Re: the Luncheon/Reception for the AGM and AGP on October 6th:
There seems to be some confusion about this, so let me clarify it a little.

The Luncheon and reception are one and the same.  They are not 2 separate events and they are happening in the same place at the same time.  We will start serving lunch at 1 pm and the entertainment, introductions and everything else will start around 1:30.  No need to get up and move!

Yes, it's different from the receptions you're used to, but we wanted to do something to benefit the youth groups and combining our luncheon/reception seemed like a great way to accomplish that goal.  Doors will open at 11:30 for luncheon donations and to purchase tickets for the raffle baskets.

If you haven't let me know you are coming, please do so ASAP so we know how much food to buy.

Hope to see you there!
Thanks & Hugs!

New Grand Representative

Terry Bennett of Syringa Chapter, Yakima, was appointed  Grand Representative to Quebec on Sept 10, 2011.  The members were very happy & Terry was very surprised.  His response -  "Now - I don't know what to say?"   Grand Adah, Diane Smith, had the honor to present Terry with his commission.  When Syringa & Sunnyside Chapters need a Worthy Patron or Assoc. Patron, Terry is there.  As a Rainbow Dad, when the girls wanted a "Tiki"  Dad, Terry was there to grant their wish.  As Potentate of Mazada Shrine, the Divan is known as "Terry's Canary's" in their bright yellow coats.

I just want to put out that the dress code for the event is summer casual - for the ladies summer dresses or Hawaiian and for the gentlemen, khaki slacks and Hawaiian or Guyabarra shirts. It can get cool in the trees so keep that thought in mind.  PLEASE no heels or dressy dresses/tuxedos!  The ground is uneven and we want everyone to be safe.

There are benches but they are not padded so you may want to bring a blanket or cushion to sit on.  Some may even want to bring lawn chairs for more comfort.

We are excited to be able to have an OV in this beautiful setting and want all to have an enjoyable afternoon.

Fraternally,

Gerry Mosler
Worthy Grand Matron

Joe Kellie Memorial Service

The memorial service for my dad, Joe Kellie, will be held on Saturday, September 8th, 5:30 pm at the Kirkland Masonic Center. There will be a light buffet following the service.   It’s later in the afternoon to allow those who might be going to the OV at the Masonic Park time to get to Kirkland for the service. The obituary will be in this Sunday’s Seattle Times and will also be on the Seattle Times website.

I wish to thank all of my OES sisters and brothers for their kind words about my dad, the many cards, hugs and prayers - it's so wonderful to belong to such a loving and caring order.

Follow my travels on the Eastern Star Highway - in the last few weeks I have attended Texas Grand Chapter, Arizona Grand Chapter and 13 Original States Exchange. UPDATE

Many members have been wondering about the status on Duane Nelson since Grand Chapter.  Here is an update given to me by WM Barbara Burleigh of Vida Chapter.  Duane was taken to the hospital in Yakima on Wednesday of Grand Chapter and remained there until that Sunday.  Since coming home he had gall bladder surgery on August 9th and was to go home on Saturday, August 11th.  He would enjoy cards and is listed as AP of Vida Chapter in the 2011-12 Blue Book.  For those who don’t know Duane you might know him as one the guys who “runs” the hand microphones on the floor during Grand Chapter.  He has done so for several years.  Duane is the current WP of Vida Chapter.

PGP JOE IVEY & GRAND CHAPTER OF ARIZONA

The Grand Chapter of Arizona was held in Glendale August 2nd-4th and I’m happy to report that PGP Joe Ivey was able to attend – another shining example of the power of prayer! WGM Jane Blair Garcia and WGP Earl Wunder welcomed Joe’s family to the Grand East during Thursday’s afternoon session to do a special presentation about Joe’s OES history. It concluded with their presentation of an American flag to the Grand Chapter of Arizona in honor of Joe’s 50th anniversary of being WGP. Then, during the evening session, when it came time to introduce the Past Grands, they introduced Joe ahead of the rest and by his new title of “Senior Past Grand Patron.” Joe was so pleased by all of this, and it made Arizona’s “Follow Your Dreams” session extra special for me, too.

SAD NEWS

It is with a very heavy heart that I let you know that Kirkland Chapter’s favorite Irishman, Joe Kellie, passed away today, August 4th at 3:30 pm.  I was able to be with him until the end.  He is now at peace and with mom, his beloved wife of 65 years.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

Friday evening, August 3rd, was an exceptionally warm and fraternally convivial evening during the Official Visit of the Worthy Grand Matron at Centralia & Chehalis Chapters.  As the current Grand Representatives were presented and introduced, and before they were returned to their place in the Chapter, I interrupted the Worthy Matron and asked if we might add to this august group.  After a few comparisons of the similarities of flora and fauna and fruit crops between our two states, I had the privilege of presenting a West Virginia Grand Representative commission to a very stunned and most pleasantly surprised Bro. Vern Young of Centralia Chapter.

Sad news

Just saw this on Facebook from Lynette Zierden about her mother Carol Fisher from Grand Coulee Dam Chapter and thought everyone would want to know.

Its is with a heavy heart that I pass on the news that Mother went to our lord and savor this morning at 643 AM. She was very comfortable and was in no pain.

the following is a message mom left on her computer and asked me to share as her final wish to everyone. so before I close this entry, I again thank everyone for all you love and support.

A daughters Love is undying
... Lynette

As I sit safe in heaven, And watch you everyday I try and let you know with signs, I never went away!

I hear you when your laughing, and watch you when you sleep, I even place my arms around you, to calm you as you weep.

I see you wish the the days away, Begging to have me home so I try to send you signs,so you know your not alone!

Don't feel guilty that you have life that was denied to me, Heaven is truly beautiful, Just you wait and see!

So Live your life, laugh again! Enjoy yourself, be free then I know with every breath you take, you'll be taking one for me.

Prayers Needed in Idaho

Some sad news from here, if you could get the word out for me.
Bill had another stroke on Monday evening. Not as bad as his first
one, but still  devastating to us.  Had a small clot at the base of
his brain stem.  A very small vein (lucky for us). Bad part its onthe other side from
his first stroke.  Has double vision, weakness in his hand and leg,
and has difficulty in speaking and swallowing. The Dr said the good news is he will
regain a lot in the next 24 hours.  But will still have to go to rehab in Coeur d' Alene.
Hoping for the best.
Linda Angel, PGM Idaho

Note:  Linda has had a vendor booth at our Grand Chapter for several years and they were both there in June.  Please keep both Bill & Linda in your prayers.

First OV - Pine Tree Chapter

We had a great time in Chewelah as Pine Tree Chapter hosted the first official visit of our new WGM Gerry Mosler with her new WGP Bob Breza.  As the Grand Representatives were being presented, WGP Bob surprised and delighted us all when he said we needed another one to balance things out.  he had the pleasure of appointing Bro. Robert Schroder, Grand Representative of Manitoba in Washington. He presently is Worthy Patron of Pinetree Chapter, Kettle Falls.

Sad News: Florence Morris

Greetings,     I just received a call from Linda Morris and she said that "Grannie" passed away last evening, July 20th. She had been failing more since Monday.  The family visited her yesterday afternoon and, although faintly and just understandable, Florence told Linda that she'd see her in heaven. Florence had requested that there be no services, but the family will have an obituary in the Seattle newspaper.  Cards to Florence's family may be sent to 2327 ~ 32nd Ave S, Seattle, WA  98144.  Florence requested that any memorials be sent to the Renton History Museum at 235 Mill Avenue South, Renton, WA 98057. UPDATE ON THE IVEY'S

Hi All,

I guess it's time to send an update on things in the Ivey household.  As you know we were able to go to Yakima for GC, and Joe did pretty good, with a nap now and then.  That trip was a Test to see if he could tolerate a trip to Arizona, and I guess he passed.  We now have plans to go back to Prescott, where his home is and where he wants to spend whatever time he has left.  Friends from there are flying up Wednesday and taking my car and trailer back to Arizona, leaving Thursday.  We are flying his daughter up here on Tuesday, so she can help me with getting him through the airport, and flight to Phoenix on Saturday the 21st.  Hospice has been wonderful, and are transferring him to Hospice down there in Prescott.  I have been packing and trying to get everything in order with all that needs to be done to accomplish this.

If we survive this trip, we may be able to attend Arizona GC  Aug 1 - 4th, where he is being honored on Thursday afternoon as it is 50 years since he was WGP.   Hopefully he can be there for that.  He so enjoyed seeing everyone in Yakima, and thrived on visiting with all his friends there.  Please keep us in your Prayers and any cards can be sent here or to our AZ address:   912 Old Stage Rd, Prescott, AZ, 86303.  However anything sent there will be forwarded here until I get back and change that.  Anything sent here will be sent down there by my neighbor.   Thanks to all of you for your Love and Prayers through this difficult time.

Just another note, My only brother has been very sick since February, in fact was in the ER the same evening I first took Joe in.  He had a lung transplant 10 years ago, and apparently from what they think, his transplant medications were affecting his organs after this long a time, so they changed his medications and it seemed that that helped some, but now is having other effects, and his blood count is down to 20 instead of 40 something, and he is not producing red blood cells, and having other complications as well,   so it is especially hard for me to leave him at this time, but I need to be where Joe wants to be.  So if you have any extra Prayers, please include my brother and his family too,  Thanks.
Carmen

UPDATE ON ESCORT NANCY

This morning (July 6th) Nancy Breza had her scheduled double mastectomy – WGP Bob called me shortly after 11 AM to say that she was out of surgery and all went very well - the surgeon said there were "no surprises" and that was a very good thing.  Then he called me about noon to say she was in recovery and they had just given her something for pain.  Just a couple minutes ago I got off the phone with Nancy - she sounds great!  Of course she is surgery sore but her spirits are excellent.  It was very comforting for me to be able to talk to her and know she is okay.
The doctors still expect her to be able to go home later this afternoon and Bob will let me know if that indeed happens.
So, once again the power of prayer works - please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she goes through the recovery process from this surgery.  She will be having radiation but they will let her recover from surgery before starting those sessions.

   WGM Gerry
