Sad news

Just saw this on Facebook from Lynette Zierden about her mother Carol Fisher from Grand Coulee Dam Chapter and thought everyone would want to know.

Its is with a heavy heart that I pass on the news that Mother went to our lord and savor this morning at 643 AM. She was very comfortable and was in no pain.

the following is a message mom left on her computer and asked me to share as her final wish to everyone. so before I close this entry, I again thank everyone for all you love and support.

Prayers Needed in Idaho

Some sad news from here, if you could get the word out for me.
Bill had another stroke on Monday evening. Not as bad as his first
one, but still  devastating to us.  Had a small clot at the base of
his brain stem.  A very small vein (lucky for us). Bad part its onthe other side from
his first stroke.  Has double vision, weakness in his hand and leg,
and has difficulty in speaking and swallowing. The Dr said the good news is he will
regain a lot in the next 24 hours.  But will still have to go to rehab in Coeur d' Alene.

First OV - Pine Tree Chapter

We had a great time in Chewelah as Pine Tree Chapter hosted the first official visit of our new WGM Gerry Mosler with her new WGP Bob Breza.  As the Grand Representatives were being presented, WGP Bob surprised and delighted us all when he said we needed another one to balance things out.  he had the pleasure of appointing Bro. Robert Schroder, Grand Representative of Manitoba in Washington. He presently is Worthy Patron of Pinetree Chapter, Kettle Falls.

Sad News: Florence Morris

Greetings,     I just received a call from Linda Morris and she said that "Grannie" passed away last evening, July 20th. She had been failing more since Monday.  The family visited her yesterday afternoon and, although faintly and just understandable, Florence told Linda that she'd see her in heaven. Florence had requested that there be no services, but the family will have an obituary in the Seattle newspaper.  Cards to Florence's family may be sent to 2327 ~ 32nd Ave S, Seattle, WA  98144.  Florence requested that any memorials be sent to the Renton History Museum at 235 Mill Avenue South, Renton, WA 98057. UPDATE ON THE IVEY'S

Hi All,

I guess it's time to send an update on things in the Ivey household.  As you know we were able to go to Yakima for GC, and Joe did pretty good, with a nap now and then.  That trip was a Test to see if he could tolerate a trip to Arizona, and I guess he passed.  We now have plans to go back to Prescott, where his home is and where he wants to spend whatever time he has left.  Friends from there are flying up Wednesday and taking my car and trailer back to Arizona, leaving Thursday.  We are flying his daughter up here on Tuesday, so she can help me with getting him through the airport, and flight to Phoenix on Saturday the 21st.  Hospice has been wonderful, and are transferring him to Hospice down there in Prescott.  I have been packing and trying to get everything in order with all that needs to be done to accomplish this. 

If we survive this trip, we may be able to attend Arizona GC  Aug 1 - 4th, where he is being honored on Thursday afternoon as it is 50 years since he was WGP.   Hopefully he can be there for that.  He so enjoyed seeing everyone in Yakima, and thrived on visiting with all his friends there.  Please keep us in your Prayers and any cards can be sent here or to our AZ address:   912 Old Stage Rd, Prescott, AZ, 86303.  However anything sent there will be forwarded here until I get back and change that.  Anything sent here will be sent down there by my neighbor.   Thanks to all of you for your Love and Prayers through this difficult time. 

Just another note, My only brother has been very sick since February, in fact was in the ER the same evening I first took Joe in.  He had a lung transplant 10 years ago, and apparently from what they think, his transplant medications were affecting his organs after this long a time, so they changed his medications and it seemed that that helped some, but now is having other effects, and his blood count is down to 20 instead of 40 something, and he is not producing red blood cells, and having other complications as well,   so it is especially hard for me to leave him at this time, but I need to be where Joe wants to be.  So if you have any extra Prayers, please include my brother and his family too,  Thanks.

70th Wedding Anniversary!!!

Ina King , former Grand Representative of Idaho and her husband James will soon celebrate 70 years of marriage.  They are both members of Pine Tree Chapter #77 Kettle Falls and Jim now serves as the Treasurer.
Their daughter Iris, who is the Chapter's Marshal, is hosting an anniversary open house on Saturday July 14th from 1-4 p.m. at her home at 2020 Scott Road in Rice WA.
Jim told me he was 19 and his lovely bride was 20 when they married :0)    (you do the math)

UPDATE ON ESCORT NANCY

   This morning (July 6^th) Nancy Breza had her scheduled double mastectomy – WGP Bob called me shortly after 11 AM to say that she was out of surgery and all went very well - the surgeon said there were "no surprises" and that was a very good thing.  Then he called me about noon to say she was in recovery and they had just given her something for pain.  Just a couple minutes ago I got off the phone with Nancy - she sounds great!  Of course she is surgery sore but her spirits are excellent.  It was very comforting for me to be able to talk to her and know she is okay.

   The doctors still expect her to be able to go home later this afternoon and Bob will let me know if that indeed happens.

   So, once again the power of prayer works - please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she goes through the recovery process from this surgery.  She will be having radiation but they will let her recover from surgery before starting those sessions.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

Stephanie Hoye, newly installed Associate Grand Matron, received permission from WGM Gerry near the end of installation at Grand Chapter in Yakima to make the announcement that the new Grand Representative to the Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland will be Paula Sonker from Kirkland Chapter .  The new appointment was because Calvin Russell is the newly installed Grand Organist and can't continue his commission.  Paula is listed in the 2011-12 Blue Book as the chapter chaplain.

GRAND LINE OFFICERS ELECTED

At the Tuesday morning session of Grand Chapter (June 26th) Jim Iversen was elected Grand Sentinel and Kristine Ford was elected Associate Grand Conductress.  Congratulations to both of them as they start their travels up the Grand Chapter of WA Grand Line.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE OF INDIANA

       I had the privilege of attending Guiding Star Chapter in Sumner tonight (June 19th) to present the Grand Representative commission for Indiana to Sister Linda Ogren.

       Worthy Matron Cindy Sims and Worthy Patron Pete Cole have a race car theme this term and all of the officers wear "finish line printed" black and white vests.  I purchased a number of plastic race cars (four inches in size) and passed them out to several members present.   On the bottom of each car was taped an answer to one of the questions I asked about the state of Indiana.  When I asked what the state flower of Indiana was, Linda opened her taped answer and it said "You are the new GR of Indiana".  She was completely surprised and delighted.  There were 2 PGPs, two Grand Officers, and two GRs present, including Bill Pond, Laurel Chapter, who was announced last Thursday night as the new GR of Tennessee.

On wed. June 13, 2012. Grand Electa, Pat Scales escorted by Grand Escort Tom Scales and Grand Ruth, Janice Glidden.traveled to Illihee Chapter in Toppenish, WA to present Shirley Deanne a Grand Representative Appointment to Kentucky.

Those attending were 3 Grand Representatives and others form Ellensburg, Wenatchee and Granger WA. Shirley was extremely excited along with her chapter members. It was Chapter Men’s night with men providing a fashion show, the meeting followed by a Chapter Picnic. (Very Delicious).

New Grand Martha for 2012-13

The room was packed as people came to see who the final addition to our Grand Family will be. Under responses our assistants, Gilligan (Terry), and Mary Ann (Nancy) were unable to find who they were looking for. Nancy decided she would be Grand Martha and Terry would be her escort. However AGP Bob and I overrode their decision and announced WM Jean Ballard as our Grand Martha. There were 7 PGM and PGP to support our announcement and there were 5 Past Grand Martha's which included Eunice Gaston, Past Worthy Grand Martha, as well as Jeannette Carroll, current Grand Martha. Several of Jean's Tea Time Stars and Forget-Me-Nots were also there. We are thrilled to have all of our officers named and now we move forward to Grand Chapter in just 2 weeks!

We wish to thank all who have come to the announcements to show their support of the LIGHTKEEPER GRAND FAMILY we have chosen. We look forward to all that is ahead and in only a SHORT 2 weeks another year will be under way.

New Westside Deputy Chairman for 2012-13

A packed house at Alderwood Chapter last night for Friends Night, the presentation of Ann Gate’s 50 year pin, and the announcement of Sharon Gray as the Westside Chairman of the Deputy Instructors for next year. AGM Gerry and AGP Terry, with the assistance of “Gilligan” Terry and “Mary Ann” Nancy, escorted Donna Gray to the east to join WM Sharon as the announcement was made. There 13 previous Westside Chairmen and 4 Eastside Chairmen, as well as current Eastside Chairman, in attendance to support the announcement of Sharon.

The newly announced Eastside Chairman, Carole Lee Walk was there, as were some of the Deputies for next year who have been announced in their chapters.

There was a nice turnout of current & former Grand Reps at the meeting last night, including Bill Miller, GR of New Jersey, and Charlotte Miller, former GR of Louisiana.  After giving a few clues as to which State, then we did a "Last Man Standing" quiz -- only in this case it was the "Last WOMAN standing" -- which was Sister Fawn.  

Immediately following the meeting, Fawn called home to her husband Walter, who is recovering from some major surgery,  to give him the exciting news.

New Eastside Deputy Chairman for 2012-13

At Astral Chapter in Wenatchee last night, Carole Lee Walk was announced as the Eastside Deputy Chairman. This announcement was well received by all in attendance, which included 6 past chairmen from the eastside and the current eastside chairman, and myself from the westside.

More Prayers Needed

Bill and Alice Hammontree and their family need our prayers in a big way. Bill is at St. Joe's in Tacoma and has had two heart attacks. He is having a heart cath later this morning to see if they can determine the problem and hopefully fix it.

PRAYERS NEEDED

PGP Bill Hammontree has been in St Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma since Friday evening (June 1^st) with heart problems.  He is scheduled for a heart catheter late tomorrow morning (June 5^th) to see what is going on, and what the next steps will be.   Please keep Bill, Alice and daughter & son (Cindy & Greg) in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank You to King County Friendship Dinner donation

King County Friendship Dinner at the end of February made a donation of $1,898.21 to the WGM Gloria's Special Project. Not only did this increase my heart rate, but it made realize once again what great people we have in Eastern Star. However since we are unable to send a thank you to all the organizers and participants, we decided to send a group hug on the Washington OES Blog.
Realize that we are excited when we receive donations as much as $100.00 and think how the amount received from the King County Friendship Dinner made us feel.

June 2, 2012 - Grand Chapter Fun Day

We had a great time at the Grand Chapter fun day to raise money to support our Gand Chapter operations.  There were racks of clothing of every, shape and kind for sale in the Chapter room.  In the lobby were books and puzzles and a 50/50 raffle.  In the dining room, a bake sale and penny auction lined the walls.  There was also an ice cream station!  Yum!  In the kitchen you could get breakfast or lunch with the hotdogs and hamburgers cooked by the Masons of Olympia.  Outside the Deputies offered either a bean bag toss for candy, or a fishing pole for other "gifts".  But the Grand Officer sponge toss seemed to provide the most entertainment to those doing the tossing, dousing and spraying.  It was a wonderful day and everyone enjoyed the fun!

We had a great time celebrating the Constitution State of Connecticut and Grand Representative Amelia Coffman at Guiding Star Chapter.  They had a delicious dinner for a donation ahead of the meeting that raised almost $300 for hospice and the addenda with the "judge" and his fellows was very amusing. It was a wonderful evening for a great lady.

This is to let you know that the attire for Fun Day, June 2^nd, is casual.  This function is from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat. 

If you are coming to work on Friday, there will be a dinner put on by the Mason’s.  They are providing, and cooking the meat and we are all to bring a side dish, if we are partaking of this meal.  There will also be a can for contributions, this money will be donated to Eastern Star, also.

Please support this as a lot of work has gone into it, will go into and be appreciated by all if you are there.  This is a chance to get some nice items to wear, and etc. for a small cost.

Grand Chapter Fun Day

OES friends, hope to see lots of you this Saturday at the Olympia Masonic Center in Tumwater for our annual Grand Chapter Fun Day. There will be food, games, sale items, food, friends and lots of fun as we raise money to support our Grand Chapter. Come toss a sponge at a Grand Officer or find something new to wear and eat some delicious food.

Beatrice 'Bea' Long-Bodette, Grand Treasurer Emeritus, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012 of complications from pneumonia and heart failure.  Her memorial service will be Friday, June 8, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 428 W Cota St, Shelton @ 2:00 PM.  There will be a viewing at Mills & Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 5725 Littlerock Rd SW, Tumwater at 9:00 AM and graveside service at 12:30 PM.
OES Memorial will be at Trinity Chapter's meeting on Monday, June 11, 2012.

“Thank you” - inadequate words to express the gratitude we feel for all of the love and support we received over the past several months of mom’s illness and her passing. People who don’t belong to an organization such as ours have no idea what a HUGE network of friends we have, and how much they help in times of need. 

Mom loved and appreciated the many, many cards she received (especially the humorous ones) and they lifted her spirits when she was feeling down. I know that the mailmen at our houses have gotten a workout from the large number of cards they have delivered recently! Thank you to all who came to the service on May 17^th – we wanted to honor this special lady in a way that would make her proud, and we feel that we accomplished that. Having you there helped to add to the celebration of her life, as you were a VERY large part of her life.

It will be difficult for us to go to meetings, receptions, and Grand Chapter without thinking about mom – she loved going and being with the members. But we have great memories of her and those memories will bring us comfort when we need them most.

You are wonderful Sisters and Brothers and we are grateful to you for all you have done for us.

Deadline for Meal Registration at Grand Chapter

The deadline for registering for meals at Grand Chapter is June 1st, so make sure you get your forms in right away.  Darlene Wiggins says a lot of you are procrastinating this year and she really needs to get the information into the Sundome and Clarion.  Hope to see lots of you at the breakfasts, lunches and dinners.  All breakfasts are at the Clarion, but this year - the rest of the meals will be at the Sundome.  That means lots less travel back and forth, so be sure to take advantage of it.

Grand Chaplain and Grand Warder for 2012-13

The announcements are continuing! 

New Grand Chaplain:
At Martha Chapter last night there was a nice crowd to see who the newest member of the grand family will be. WM Elaine and WP Dick Weigel had a nice meeting and under Good of the Order AGM Gerry and AGP Bob, with their assistants Gilligan (Terry) and Marianne (Nancy) escorted Tom Henson and Marilyn Schahfer to the east. AGP Bob introduced Tom Henson as Grand Chaplain. Those in attendance included 4 PGM's (June Lee, Marjoe Richards, Diane Osborne, and Linda Runyan), 2 PGP's (J. Paul Fitzsimmons and Dick Weigel), 6 Past Grand Chaplains (Carla Bolenus, Clayton Sparks, Diane Osborne, Connie Shrum, Harold Hill and John Chamberlain) and Jim Iversen, current Grand Chaplain.

New Grand Warder:
Last night at Guiding Star Chapter Bob and I were pleased to announce Sister Terry Cramer as our Grand Warder. Terry's escort next year will be her husband Al. There was a very nice turnout to see who was getting the appointment, including 2 PGM's (Gerry Shafer and Bev Haave) and 4 PGP's (Gary Craig, Bill Hammontree, Terry Wiggins, and Dennis Okicich). There were 5 Past Grand Warders there - Doris Tibbitts, Kay Woodward, Donna Miles, Darlene Wiggins and Donna Lind. There were also 2 of our other Grand Officers there - Louann Yager, Gr. Electa and Nancy Jorgensen, Gr. Esther.

Grand Esther for 2012-13

There was a great turnout at Cyclamen Chapter in Auburn as we announced Nancy Jorgensen as our Grand Esther. Her special escort is her husband Al. There were 3 past Grand Esther's in attendance - Jill Okicich, Lorna Burns, and Jean Lindburg. There were also several Past Grand Matrons and Patrons at the meeting. 

Skipper Gerry, Firstmate Bob, Gilligan Terry and MaryAnn Nancy had a little trouble with one of the Past Grand escorts - seems Darlene Wiggins really wanted to be the grand officer but we had to tell her we were sorry, but not this time!

A fun time was had by all and we appreciate the support. Rodger will put pictures on the blog - Thanks Rodger!

Very Sad News

May 6, 2012 - Inland Empire PDI Luncheon

The Inland Empire Past Deputy Club had their final meeting on Sunday.  They are merging with the IE PM & PP Club.  It was a wonderful meeting and everyone enjoyed the delicious lunch.

May 4, 2012 - Eastside Chairman HN

The cows and all the other animals came to Rosalia High School to help honor Marita Bothman, Eastside Chairman of the Merry Mice Deputies.  What a fun time we had and what a great job Malden Chapter, led by WM Louise Belsby, did to provide some side splitting humor and some toe tapping music from the Shrine Jazz Band.    It was a very fun evening.

Hands Across the Border - May 5, 2012

We had a great time at Hands Across the Border with our friends from Alberta, BC & Yukon, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and here in Washington.  We even had visitors from other jurisdictions and the place was packed!  The theme was "vintage glitz", the food was delicious and the entertainment - consisting of skits from the 6 jurisdictions - was fabulous.  It was exciting to hear the announcements for the next triennium and we look forward to great times with Bobbi and John.

DI HN Kim Norton, Analia - May 3rd

Analia Chapter had a blast honoring our own Merry Mice Deputy Instructor Kim Norton on Thursday night, May 3rd.  The meeting was fun, the entertainment - courtesy of her Jobie daughter and 2 of our other wonderful Jobies/Rainbow Girls - was frenetic, and the deserts were absolutely delightful.  Thanks to everyone who attended and to Marcia Beck and Sheila Shreve for chairing.

Grand Chapter Tours

This is to let members and guests know that we still have space available on the Grand Chapter Tour on Sunday June 24. Yes, we will be back in plenty of time to get ready for the Gala Banquet that evening. If you have visitors from outside of Washington they would be most welcome on the tour and we always have a great time. We have people from California, BC & Yukon, Pennsylvania and Washington already signed up. We still have room for more. Get your reservations in soon, you don’t want to miss the bus!

Tote Bag Lost at Rainbow Mom & Dad Honor Event

"On Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Rainbow Mom and Dad's Honor event, a white tote bag full of personal items with "Holland America" on it was mistakenly put into a dress or suit bag (in the rear pocket) that was hanging in the cloak room near the downstairs entrance of Alki Lodge in West Seattle. The personal items in the bag included an inhaler and other medicine, a pair of black shoes and other personal items. This happened before noon on Sunday.  If you find this tote bag in your suit/dress bag would you please contact John or Sue Adamson at 253-848-0977.  We can then make arrangements to retrieve it.  Thank You."

At Okanogan Chapter last night AGP Bob Breza and I, along with our escorts Terry and Nancy, were pleased to announce JoDee Desrosier as our Grand Marshal - the chapter room was filled, including 11 past Grand Marshal's.  JoDee's escort will be Bonnie Rail from Pine Tree Chapter (they were DI's together and have been good friends for many years),

Vida Chapter Luncheon & Entertainment

Vida Chapter is having a Luncheon and Entertainment on Saturday, May 26, at South Tacoma Masonic Hall, 5405 S.
