TWO NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVES

Last night (February 7th) I traveled to Astral Chapter to present Ms Barbara Pittman with the commission to Saskatchewan. To say she was shocked is an understatement. Everyone present was as thrilled as I was for her. She was secretary for 20+ years. Thank you Becky Aldrich for sharing your night.
Linda Carlson, Grand Adah

Tonight, February 8th, I travelled to Cyclamen Chapter #65, Auburn to present the commission to New York to Brother Al Jorgensen.
I made a list of "things this member has accomplished” sort of a 'This is Your Life'...
I asked all the members of Cyclamen to stand and if I named off anything that did not apply to them, they were to sit down.
The end goal was to have Brother Al almost being the last person standing.
As soon as I got to the 5th clue: this person.... is a Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Washington, I walked over and escorted Al up to the East.
Then I asked if he wanted to know where he's going?  YES!  So I had a few quick facts, and paused to see if he could guess...
Finally announcing NEW YORK, I gave him the largest apple I could find.  Then a bag of peppermint patties, attached to it was a post it note.  The writing "NEW” on it, I put it above the YORK on the label.  Then he received the packet of info, letters, etc.  After that, pinned and introduced.
It was my pleasure and my honor to present this commission.  I know I had fun!  Al was super appreciative and the members were excited for him.
Ann Gates, PGM was there.  Several Former Grand Representatives.  One current.  I'm sure the weather kept most people at home, perfectly understandable.
A fun night was had by all!

OES China for sale

John Gray of Seattle has some OES china for sale. See his message and photos below.
Hi,
My name is John Gray and I acquired a fair amount of some Eastern Star China at auction. Variety of makers and pieces. Some is from the daughters of the Eastern Star. There are also some special honor pieces. It would be great if someone within your organization was interested in purchasing these rather than just selling to any one. So I thought I would reach out. I would like to sell all in one lot for $350.00 It is priced lower than E BAY pricing. If anyone is interested reach out to me at the email address. I live in the Seattle area.
Best Regards,

John Gray

Tootles ~ JoDee Desrosier, Gr. Conductress

I was pleased to present Malinda “Mindy” Morgan her commission as Grand Representative to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.  At the end of the Grand Representatives introducing themselves at Neil’s Reception on Saturday, February 4th.  I jumped up and asked the WGM if there were any more commissions to be given.  She said that there was.  I proceeded to ask her if I could please have an appointment, at which time I was told no.  Gerry Mosler was in attendance and volunteered for the commission but I proceeded with the search for the perfect person to fill the position.  Sister Mindy was very surprised and kept repeating “it’s me, it’s really me”.  I know that she and Michelle Burlison are already making plans and that they will have a wonderful time in Nova Scotia.

New Grand Representative

It was my pleasure tonight (Jan 24th) to travel to Amethyst Chapter in West Seattle to present the Grand Representative to Massachusetts commission to sister Sandra Monk.  She was shocked and honored! I think there may have been some 'happy tears'.
I started off by giving facts about the state that I was there to present.  First was describing the state flag.
Prior to the meeting, I had handed out 7 scrolls to the 5 Star Points, the Conductress and WP.  I travelled to each Star point, asked them to read their
scroll with various facts about this State.  I walked over to Sandra, sitting at Conductress and asked her to read her scroll, not quite then....
I proceeded up to the East and asked the WP to read his scroll.  WP Richard Moulden (and Grand Organist) proudly and loudly read the "Hear ye, Hear Ye" scroll announcing Sandra, on this date, time and place to be the New Grand Representative to Massachusetts!  Sandra is Conductress of Amethyst Chapter, so I had a former Grand Representative to Massachusetts (Dianna Kaspar) escort her to the East.  She was then pinned, presented with the Official Certificate and packet from Massachusetts.  All happy moments and smiles around the room!  Sandra has all the scrolls too, for her scrapbook.  Happy and safe travels!
There were 9 former Grand Representatives and 3 current Grand Representatives present.
Since Sandra was a Blue Bird Deputy Instructor, there were 2 Blue Birds present for her - all bustin' their buttons over her.
This was indeed a special night, one for the memory books!

New Grand Representative

It was my pleasure to travel to the "Queen City of the San Juan Islands" Monday evening to present the commission of Grand Representative of New Hampshire to Sister Margaret Kennedy of Madrona Chapter.
I started by giving several facts about New Hampshire ending with "Sarah Josepha Hale, author and journalist, wrote the poem 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' in 1830."  Madrona's Associate Matron, Mary Morgan, guessed New Hampshire, and I ended with this poem:
So now to find the new grand rep,
Her hair was not as white as snow,
And everywhere her sister went,
She was also sure to go.
The sister at the organ
Is the one we're looking for;
Congratulations, Margaret,
You're our newest star!
The whole room came to their feet, and everyone was very pleased with this commission.
There were eight former grand representatives present to congratulate Sister Margaret.

New Grand Representative

On Saturday January 14, 20117, I had the pleasure of presenting the commission of Grand Representative of North Carolina to Georgia McKinley of Centralia Chapter. I gave a few dates of special note about North Carolina and ended with ‘and on this date, January 14th, the new Grand Representative of North Carolina is”. Georgia and all of those present were delighted and she was given a standing ovation. What fun.

New Grand Representative

I was honored last night to give the commission as Grand Representative of Minnesota to Sister Bonnie Stuart, the Worthy Matron of Tyee. She was almost speechless. The joy of her appointment was only equaled by the reaction of the audience to the Response of Brother Leonard Gottner, Past Grand Patron (you have to ask him about his announcement.) It was an evening filled with happiness. Congratulations to Sister Bonnie on a well-deserved honor.

New Grand Representative

This is Betty Hughes, Grand Martha.  I was able to give the commission of Grand Representative of Connecticut to my mother, Patty Hughes, Spokane Chapter, tonight January 10, 2017.

I had my escort, Alice, hand out 6 numbered envelopes to various people around the room.  Then I said we were going to play a game trying to guess which cities were the furthest from Spokane.  As I called for each number, I had the person with that envelope open it and read what I had written in the card.  For example –  “Which city is furthest from Spokane.  Honolulu Hawaii or Hartford Connecticut?”  The entire room would try to guess and I would give the answers with the number of miles of how far away each one was from Spokane.  I had 5 envelopes with various cities, and then the 6th envelope Mom had.  Inside, it said, “Mom – are  you sure you want to go to Hawaii for our next vacation?”  She couldn’t figure out why I said that.  Then after she read it out loud, I asked her if she would rather go to Connecticut as the Grand Representative.   She was quite surprised.  I had Alice escort her to the east and formally introduced her.  It was so  much fun to be able to give the commission to my mother!!
