New Grand Representative

It was a great joy to be able to present the Grand Representative Commission for Ohio to brother Gil Carroll at Laurel Chapter on June 11th. After giving a few clues to as to the jurisdiction, the members figured out it was Ohio. I then asked sister Irene Jacobs to escort our newest Grand Representative to the East. She wandered around the room and came to the East where she picked up Gil (he was pro teming as Worthy Patron) and escorted him around the room and back to the East. Thank you PGM Sandy McAmmond for playing Beautiful Ohio the state song for Gil and PGM Marge Ramsdell for teaching us an Ohio cheer.. Gil was very surprised and pleased and cheers were heard from the chapter.  Gil and Jeannette plan to travel to Ohio.
We had 2 PGM's, 1 PGP and 14 former Grand Representatives in attendance.
Thank you WGM Mary Ann for allowing me this privilege.

New Grand Representative

I went to Tacoma chapter to present Suzanne Martin, the Oklahoma Grand Representative commission.  I passed out 10 envelopes with answers in them.  As we asked the question trying to discover which state I was looking for, the envelopes were opened to get correct answer.  When we got to the 10th question,( this was when I wished I could sing), name the state song.  Well John Langlow had figured it out and started playing "OKLAHOMA".......then Suzanne opened her envelope which said,"Oklahoma......Suzanne Martin you are the new Grand Representative of Oklahoma".......she was stunned.  We got her to the East where I presented her certificate and pin and an Oklahoma state stone.....a red rose rock! There were lots of G. R., Grand Secretary, Grand Conductress and Grand Ruth in attendance!

New Grand Representative

I traveled to Golden Rod Chapter in Snohomish last night and presented  Anna Thomas  with the Commission of Vermont. Before the meeting  I gave several members tickets. When it was time to make the presentation I passed out envelopes with a small gift inside, to those people with the instructions they couldn't open them yet.
Then called out a number and had the person with that number open her envelope. Inside was a small gift bag with coins wrapped in tissue paper. I asked how much money she had and the amount matched the last two numbers on her envelope.  Two more people opened envelopes and again the amount matched the last two numbers. The I called for number 200 and Anna proceeded to open her envelope and there was her Vermont pin. She sat there with a stunned look and tears ran down her face. I then introduced her as the new Grand Representative of Vermont. Took her to the East and gave her the Certificate and rest of the paperwork. She was pretty much speechless.  It was fun thing to do.

ANSWER TO CLUE #3

Our kite set sail and landed in Port Angeles.  Calvin and I are delighted to announce our Memory Maker Grand Ruth.
Virginia "Ginny" Elliott will be our Grand Ruth and her Escort is Phyllis Rasler.
It seems that some were stumped by the clue but those who figured it out and were able to attend the meeting in Port Angeles had a Grand time.  Cheri Moll and Tom Schenwerk were there to represent the PGM and PGP's. Current Grand Ruth, Melanie Boss was there and looked lovely in her creamy-pale yellow dress. In the excitement I forgot to count but I think there were 4 past Grand Ruths. Ginny is a bundle of fun and joy and we look forward to her sharing her sunny yellow outlook on life.  Two more clues this week.  Hope you will be able to attend. New Grand Representative

On Saturday (March 21st) at Tyler Chapter's installation I had the privilege of announcing brother Ken Estess as the new Grand Representative of Maine in Washington. After the installation of officers under announcements I asked for help from Irene Jacobs Grand Secretary  and Melanie Boss Grand Ruth. I had a presentation board with a map of the United States and we narrowed down our search for the jurisdiction by following clues like East of the Mississippi and somewhere along the Appalchain trail. While doing that I placed letters on the board to spell out Maine. After we had figured out the jurisdiction I asked Melanie to find our new Grand Representative, several people stood up hoping it would be them but at last Melanie escorted Ken to the east. Both Ken and his wife Ann were very surprised and the chapter and all in attendance were happy.
Thank you Maryann for allowing me to present this commission to a very deserving member.

OES Calendar

RE: The WA OES calendar
We know there is a problem and believe me, we are working to find a solution. For some reason, none of Mary Ellen's posts are showing up anymore. I have reposted all the dates I have and hope you can see them. Please let me know if you can. If there are missing dates, let me know what they are and I will get them reposted. In the meantime, please remember we are not paid to do this. We do it out of love for the order and Mary Ellen Sparks has done a phenomenal job in keeping it accurate and up to date. This is a technical issue beyond our control or knowledge. Bear with us while we try to find a solution.

Another Grand Representative

I am pleased to announce that I presented the Grand Representative commission of New Hampshire to Barbara Kaiser at Crown Chapter tonight (February 5th).  I had several officers and visitors open an envelope and read a fun fact about New Hampshire and I had a "souvenir" to go with each fact.  For example:  The first potato planted in the US was in New Hampshire, so I had a potato in the gift bag and the first state to have a lottery was New Hampshire, hence a state lottery scratch ticket was in the gift bag.  The holder of envelope #7 opened the envelope and the card stated, "Congratulations!  You are the new Grand Representative of New Hampshire".  Barbara could hardly read the card and while the audience applauded I helped her up to the East.  Barbara serves as Treasurer and is listed in the Blue Book.  She is also a charter member of Crown Chapter, so this honor was very special for me to give and for Barbara to receive.

Two More Grand Representatives

Last night (February 4th) I was able to give a commission to Jennie Palmer of Victory chapter.  She will be Grand Representative of New Brunswick, Canada.  I was so happy she was there because she had another foot surgery last Friday and it was iffy if she was going to make chapter. phoooo!!!!!dodged that one what is it about me and feet lol.  She is listed in the Blue Book as JPM.
Marita Bothman, Grand Electa

I am pleased to announce that I presented The Grand Representative commission of New York to Alberta “Peaches” Frye at Belfair Chapter tonight (Wed February 4, 2015).
We created a skit in honor of Valentine’s Day.  It depicted a scene from the movie Sleepless in Seattle where the couple was to meet on the Empire State Building in New York City.  We seated Peaches and Andy Withers at the table and I played the waiter.  After I opened the Martinelli’s and poured it into their wine glasses I gave them menus and asked them to order.  The whole time our Organist was playing different songs from the movie to see who could figure out what was coming.  We had written a note inside Peaches’ menu which said “I will have the same thing that the Grand Representative of New York is having”.  She read it but still didn’t understand.  I had her read it again and this time she figured it out. She was quite surprised and excited.
She is the mother of Pam Rookard, Past Grand Warder.  She is presently listed in the Blue Book as Associate Conductress of Port Orchard Chapter.
Thank you, Lee Ison, Grand Chaplain

New Grand Representative

Tuesday evening, February 3rd, I traveled to Alma Chapter in Kennewick to present the Grand Representative commission for Massachusetts in Washington.
To find our honoree, I pulled Professor Russell out of retirement and conducted a short pop quiz.
I went to the Secretary, to Adah, to Esther, and to the Associate Conductress asking them historical questions requiring them to name a state on the east coast.  Sister Esther pleaded that she'd "failed history, don't call on me!"  She still got half-a-point for her partially correct answer.  Lastly, I went to Sister Phyllis Williams, Chapter Martha, who wrapped her arms around her head and exclaimed, "Oh, no, not me!  I can't answer questions!"  "Oh, yes you can," was my response.  And I then asked her to name a state in New England that has the oldest Grand Lodge in the nation and that had a very famous event associated with tea.  "Massachusetts," she asks hesitantly.  "Yes," I exclaimed, "and YOU are the new Grand Representative of Massachusetts in Washington!!"
Cheers and laughter, and many tears of joy followed.  Sister Phyllis was presented in the East, given her commission certificate and pin, and a hearty welcome from all present.

Two New Grand Representatives

I traveled to Guiding Star #99 in Sumner last evening (January 20th)  to present Tracy Williams with the commission of Grand Representative of North Carolina.
Irene G. Jacobs
Grand Secretary

It is with love and a lot of pleasure that I announced last night (January 20th) at the Official Visit a new Grand Representative. Norma Jean Gaynor, PM, Occidental Chapter was not there and after several attempts to call her I announced it in her absence. I spoke with her this morning and she is thrilled to be the new Grand Representative of Sao Paolo, Brazil.

New Grand Representative

Last night (January 19th) I (Penny Norvell, Grand Marshal) had the privilege of presenting the Grand Representative commission to Virginia Goad of Chehalis Chapter.  I gave envelopes to everyone and asked them not to open until appropriate time. Then I read them clues about Alberta. After the clues were given I had them open their envelopes.(in which all said Alberta)......only by  alphabet of their first name.....so slowly we got down to "V" .......Virginia's said, "CONGRATULATIONS you are the new Grand Representing of Alberta in Washington!!!!"  Then I introduced her and the room roared!

Another New Grand Representative

I had the pleasure of presenting the Grand Representative of Florida appointment last night (January 14th) at Tula Chapter #26 in Coupeville to Worthy Patron George Konopik.
Pat and I circled the chapter room with a bag of fruits and vegies asking various members what state they could be found in.  The last fruit was an orange with the Florida Grand Representative pin stuck in it.  George correctly identified Florida as the place where most oranges came from and was given the orange and pin and informed he was the new Grand Representative.  Everyone present was thrilled for this well deserved member to receive this honor.
Oh, yes - Pat kept looking in the bag and saying, "Have we no bananas?" and I replied by singing, "Yes, we have no bananas."  What fun!

New Grand Representative

Tonight, January 12th, Nancy and I traveled to Syringa Chapter in Yakima and presented Sister Susan Seagraves with her commission as Grand Representative of Ontario. All went well except for the getting there.
According to the Blue Book and the Blog, Syringa meets at 314 S 2nd AVE in Yakima. THEY DON”T! They meet at the Fruitvale Grange! Luckily we got to Yakima at 6:30 so we had enough time to figure out what went wrong and get there before they closed the doors on us.
Had a great time!

Two New Grand Representatives

I am pleased to announce Barbara Blankenship of Harmony Chapter as our new Grand Representative of Connecticut. She was thrilled.  So fun. Chris Bippes, Grand Martha

I traveled to Mount Baker Chapter in Mount Vernon last night and presented the Commission of Grand Representative of Mississippi to Laurel Jacobs.  She is the Treasurer at Mount Baker.
I first did a geography lesson by asking for the capitals of 5 different states, then asked what the first letter of each capital spelled. It took a few minutes and then someone (I think Jane Christianson) very quietly with a question mark said Jacobs. I went down and greeted Laurel and her first question was "Where do I go?" I then asked her what state was Jackson the capital of and she promptly said Mississippi.  It turned out that she has family near there.
A commission well deserved and a pleasure to present it.

On Tuesday, January 6, 2015, I had the pleasure of traveling to Maple Leaf Chapter in Bellingham to present a Grand Representative commission.
I stood up under announcements, and read several fun facts about the state whose commission was being given.  My last line was “have you figured out what state you will be representing, Gary?”  MICHIGAN!!  I thought Gary would be surprised, BUT, the surprise was on me and everyone else in the chapter room.  It turns out that Gary’s counterpart had notification that his commission would be effective January 1, 2015, and so she called him to congratulate him at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, January 3!  As he was talking with his counterpart, he kept thinking “I’m not supposed to know this; I’m not supposed to know this.”  Too funny!!!
Congratulations to Gary Pitcher, Maple Leaf Chapter, Bellingham, the new Grand Representative of Michigan!

Nancy Mouat Memorial Information

The following was posted on Facebook by Micheal Mouat regarding his mother, Nancy:

We will be Celebrating My Mother's Life twice in the next couple months. Once in Hemet at the Colonial Country Club (601 N. Kirby Street, Hemet, Ca) on December 5th @ 3 pm. The second Celebration will be held in Stanwood, Washington, at the United Methodist Church on January 23rd @ 1 pm. All our Friends and Family our invited to join us in celebrating the life of the most amazing woman we have ever known.
In the memory of Nancy Mouat (June 14, 1949-November 17, 2014)
On Monday, November 17, 2014, Nancy Mouat went to be with the Lord surrounded by her husband Wayne, son Michael, and daughter-in-law Caitlin Mouat. Many thanks in the Hemet Fire Department and AMR who tried so valiantly to save her.
Nancy dearly loved her granddaughter, Gracie, and she was one of the primary reasons she moved to California. Nancy is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Wayne Mouat, her loving daughter, Mary Mouat-Munson and husband Karl and their daughter in love, Ruby, her two wonderful sons, Michael and his wife Caitlin Mouat and William and his wife Stephanie Mouat and their children, Colby and Chandler, and her mother, Mary Coombs.
Nancy’s life was dedicated to the Order of the Eastern Star and her family. She spent her final years caring for her mother and was just beginning to enjoy retirement when she was taken from us so suddenly.
Nancy had a passion for traveling and spent the last fourteen years traveling all over the United States with her “booth” serving the Eastern Star at their many conventions.
My dearest one, your pain is through. From all of us our love to you goes on forever. This is not goodbye but just adieu.

Update on 2013-14 WGM & WGP Project Donations

Helen and I went to the Gold Ribbon Night for Pediatric Cancer Awareness sponsored by Seattle Children's last night and heard about the advances in Pediatric Cancer Care.  The Ben Towne Center has treated more than ten patients now and all are doing well for Leukemia.

Children's has just started it's first clinical trial treating for Neuroblastoma, which is the desease Ben Towne succumbed to, and what we were collecting money for all year.  So we really did contribute to something great, great job everybody.

So the total is $23,851.65 for Ben Towne and $23,851.85 for Northwest Harvest for a big total of

                   $47,703.30 for the year.
