Over 135 members gathered in Cheney for the last OV at Martha and Malden Chapters.  Prior to the meeting the Chapters served a delicious lunch.  During the meeting there were a few tears as WGM Linda and WGP Dick did their final OV.  It was a beautiful afternoon full of love and friendship.

Grand Officer Initiation - Centralia

The Grand Officers were proud to participate in the initiation of Doug and Diane Bates into Centralia Chapter on Tuesday, March 8th.  It was a happy night and a great celebration for the new members.

Reception for Grand Sentinel - Bob Breza

It was a nice day in Chewelah and the weather cooperated as an overflow crowd witnessed the reception of Grand Sentinel Bob Breza.  The Grand Officers came prepared with fishing and cooking supplies for Bob.  Responses were given by GGCCM & PGM Gerry Shafer, PGM Diane Osborne and PGP Roy Sharp.  The mystery speaker was Grand Treasurer Marcia Haukaas who delighted everyone by dressing in swim fins, mask and life vest.

One of the highlights of the evening was the response from PGM of BC & Yukon, Rena Davis who had us all rolling in the aisles with laughter with her stories of her travels with the Breza's.

Afterwards there were delicious refreshments in the dining hall.

IMPORTANT Routing information to Grand Coulee Dam Chapter

Grand Coulee Dam Chapter is asking your help to get this information out to the membership. Sister Pamala Marrs' Honor Day is to be held April 9th at the Community Church in Coulee Dam, next to the Masonic Hall. We have just received notice that Highway SR155 is to be CLOSED from April 2nd through April 10th for rock scaling work. We ask that you study your state map if you are coming from south, west, or northwest to determine the best route to take to get to Coulee Dam as you will not be able to get to here from Coulee City. From the west, if you come across the Waterville Plateau, turn north on SR 17, just before you get to Coulee City, go to SR174 and go right to Grand Coulee. Coming from the south, turn east at Coulee City on US2 and go to Hartline, Almira or Wilbur (our suggested turn on SR 174) and go left to the Grand Coulee area. We are sorry about this inconvenience. Last fall they stated that this work would be done in March, so we never thought it would be an issue. Well, now it is and we are doing our best to make your trip here as easy as possible in advance.

We just returned home from Standwood Chapter where I presented Kenneth Taylor with a Grand Representative Commission of Maine.

Boy was he surprised. I was glad to present it as I was given the paper work on January 29. It was really hard for me to keep my mouth shut when we were traveling.

2011 - February 26 - Reception of Assoc. Gr. Conductress

Over 300 brave souls risked life and limb to attend the Reception of Associate Grand Conductress Stephanie Hoye. Pigs were flying everywhere and there was lots of laughter and fun. Someone messed us and printed the wrong speech, so she was forced to improvise and try to give it from memory - not so easy at her advanced age!

Good Afternoon. Thank you so much for coming to Analia Chapter today to honor the station of Associate Grand Conductress.

Associate Grand Conductress – WOW!

So, since good discipline is essential to the success of our order, what exactly is “grand” good discipline? What is it like, what’s required to be the Associate Grand Conductress?

First of all – and for those of you who aspire to this position, listen carefully – as soon as you are elected you are required to pull out your checkbook. You have to pay for:
• Your installation dress
• Forever dress
• Luncheon suit
• Travel dress
• The installation dinner
• Sunshine
• Grand officer gifts
• Subscriptions
• Gifts for Christmas and unbirthday parties
• An endless stream of luncheons and dinners throughout the year
• And a partridge in a pear tree.
Make sure you keep that checking account full and checks at the ready because just when you think they’re wrung every last nickel out of you, they say those four dreaded little words.

And then, Oh, by the way, by virtue of being elected, you are now on the:
• Standard works committee,
• Worthy Grand Matron’s Special Project committee
• Ex-officio on the Charities Fund committee
• Ex-officio on the Finance committee
• Ex-officio on the Session Site Selection committee
• And, oh, by the way, you are also the fraternal correspondent for all Grand Chapters M through Z which means you have to read their proceedings and file a report on certain things about them.

Now, my big sister Gerry has to read A through L, but please don’t feel sorry for her. It has recently come to my attention that there are 61 other Grand jurisdictions, which means we should have about 30 apiece. However, when I counted, there were 21 in A-L and 40 in M-Z. Next year that will be just fine, but right now – it sucks!

Oh, by the way, several things had to be done right away.
• My session chairmen had to be named so they could start their official duties on the Grand chapter properties committee. Thanks Paula Sonker and Dianna Kaspar!
• My decorations chairman had to be appointed so she could work with the session chairmen. Thanks Louise Day!
• My Tellers chairman also had to be appointed so he could start working on the tellers committee. Thanks Alan Sawyer!
• A decision on the gift for Gerry’s grand officers when she is WGM had to be made and the gifts had to be started. Thanks mysterious person who is making the mysterious and wonderful gifts!

And, oh, by the way – you are in charge of the Grand Officers unbirthday party. You need to
• Arrange for the place
• Decide on the menu
• Send out the invitations
• Purchase the cake
• Arrange for decorations
• And, try and collect the money from those slippery Grand officers! Believe me, that’s the hardest part!

And, oh, by the way – you are in charge of getting the quilts made that are presented to the WGM and WGP at the farewell dinner. Now, quilts imply sewing and that’s not my forte. I have a sewing machine but only for dire emergencies. It rarely sees the light of day. In fact, when I had to pull it out the other day to work on my brag rags, I couldn’t find the instruction manual and it took me 30 minutes to figure out how to thread it. However, I discovered that one of my new dearest friends, Cindy Garrett, is a fantastic quilter and all I really had to do was:
• beg her for help
• collect money from those slippery Grand officers
• distribute the squares
• bug them to get them back to Cindy
• and sit back and look good knowing she will do a fantastic job! Right, Cindy?

Oh, by the way, you need to start making lists of people who can potentially be Grand Officers, Grand Representatives, Deputy Instructors and committee members. If you ever wonder if we are observing you – we are! We are looking at:
• How you do your work – is it from memory, or do you read it and do you know things that are found in the fine print and Book of Instruction?
• Do you work for your Chapter? Are you at all the fundraisers and do you work in the kitchen and help clean up? Do you take offices?
• Do you travel – in your area, around the state, out of state, to regular Chapter meetings or just to special events?
• Are you fun to be around and a happy person?
We are watching you and taking notes!

And finally, oh, by the way, you need to start thinking about:
• Pins for Grand officers and Deputies
• Gifts for just about everyone on earth
• Deputy bags
• Sales items for charities
• Bags
• Notebooks
• Holders for pins and dues cards
• Dress and shoe bags
• Aprons
• Carry ins
• Candy bags
• Brag rags
• Dresses, dresses and more dresses
• And a partridge in a pear tree.

Man am I tired! It’s a big, daunting job, but I am so grateful to have it and determined to do my very best for all of you. Thank you so much for electing me.

Our country has dire problems, but I don’t believe we should rely on politicians, government agencies or other people to solve most of them. It doesn’t matter what party you identify with or what your religious beliefs are, we can all have an impact. Most people don’t choose to be hungry or homeless or jobless. But we can choose to help them.

I believe in the axiom, “Think globally, act locally.” Envision what you want the world to be like and start working on achieving that in your own home, community, county and state.
What can you do to make things better in your neighborhood or town? That’s why projects that support local food banks and schools and other local community needs will be my focus. I want to make things better for the people in my community. When we all focus on making our own communities better, we are like the rock in the pond. We create the ripples that affect more people for good.

Today, instead of corsages or gifts, I am throwing a small rock into the pond. WM Sheila, please accept this check made out to Analia Chapter which I hope you will in turn donate to the Carol Rowe Memorial Food Bank in Edmonds.

(Then she introduced everyone in the room and even made all those who have not been Deputies or Grand Representatives stand so she could check them out.)

I would like to thank my chairpersons for today’s event without whom all this would not have been possible. Kim Norton and Jan Etchison were my general chairmen and I was really worried about that! They wouldn’t allow me to have any say in anything except the lunch menu and my speech. I am relieved and grateful to the two of you for your efforts. I can always count on you for wonderful work and I truly appreciate your friendship. I am also most grateful to the Portrait Grand Family who cooked and served our delicious luncheon. I am so lucky to be part of that group. Please help me thank them.

To Don and Jan Etchison, you are so special to me. Make no mistake about it – Don may be my official escort and do all the escorting and get introduced, but Jan is just as important and as much of the team. Her contributions make my life easier and help keep us moving forward. She says she is the escort to the escort, but I say I have two escorts and both of them are crucial to me. Please help me thank them for all that they do.

To the members of Analia Chapter, thank you so much for your assistance. I couldn’t do this without you and I appreciate you more than words can ever say.

To everyone here, your presence is the best gift you could ever give me. Thank you so much for coming and always remember that laughter is the best medicine.

On Thursday, February 24th Grand Ruth, Anita Borst traveled to the Official Visit of Harmony and Silver Star Chapters in Waterville to present the Grand Representative of North Carolina commission to Chuck Garrett. Chuck is Chaplain of Harmony Chapter in the current Blue Book.

Canceled Meetings!!

• Eastern Washington Current & Former Grand Representatives:

President Ed Weber just called to say that he and Brother Dale Cooper had decided to cancel the February meeting. The snow is quite deep and the roads probably won't get plowed in time to make it safe for our members to travel tomorrow. They send Valentine greetings and hope everyone stays safe and warm!
Our Chaplain, Brother Bill Duggan had surgery Monday, February 20 and has returned home to Coulee Dam. He would appreciate prayers and cards but no calls or visits. Thanks.

Cedar Chapter Top 8 Honor Night Postponed

Cedar Chapter #173 will NOT be meeting tonight, February 24th, due to the dangerous weather conditions. We have scheduled a make-up meeting on Tuesday, March 1st, which will be a regular meeting. The Top 8 Bon Voyage Honor Night will be held on our last meeting, Thursday, March 24th. We hope to see you all there.

Due to the icy conditions on the Penninsula, the Honor Night for Sparkler DI Bernice Zachau on Friday, February 25th has been cancelled.  We will let you know when it is rescheduled!

The sun shone brightly in Ballard as the Martha Club had a luncheon to honor Grand Martha Helen Collins.  The luncheon was delicious and a representative of New Beginnings gave a very interesting talk on domestic violence and the incredible work their organization does to help victims.

2011 - FEb 18 - OV Cyrene, Madrona, Mount Baker, and Tula

Over 100 members gathered in Sedro Woolley for the first 4 chapter OV. 

WM Nadine Weatherby and WP Stephen Doran of Mount Baker and their officers did a great job of opening and introductions.  Then WM Judy Savage and WP - PT Gerald Guthrie of Madrona and their officers took over.  Mary Hartsfield, AC - PT, did a beautiful Associate Conductress lecture to the candidates as their ritual work. 

WM Gail Thompson and WP Charlie Tewalt of Cyrene and their officers were up next and did a wonderful Golden Chain.  Then finally, WM Debbie Allen and WP Jim Iversen of Tula and their officers finished out the night and made everyone proud. 

Despite dire predictions, the meeting was finished before 9:30 and everyone had a wonderful time.  The evening went very smoothly and there were delicious refreshments in the dining room afterwards.

2011 - Feb 13 - Night at the Speakeasy

Da Guys and da Gals was out in force at the Speakeasy in West Seattle.  Al Capone and Don Corleone both made their presence known and Big Tommy was enforcin the code with his gun in tow.  The gang ate and drank some great chow, then they fought it out over poker and auction prizes.  The WGM and the WGP got what they deserved and went away quietly!

Everyone scattered when a rumor circulated that the cops were on the way!

2011 - Martha Club Luncheon - Feb 19th

If you are planning on attending the Martha Club Luncheon on Saturday, February 19th, please bring toiletries for New Beginnings. The agency prefers regular size products not what you get when you stay in hotels/motels. (Lotions, bar soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.) The members of Martha Club have been bringing items the last two meetings. I'll have a box to put the items in at the luncheon.

2011 - Feb 12 - Grand Esther Luncheon

The Esther Club held their annual luncheon to honor Grand Esther and the other Starpoints on Saturday, February 12.  The dining room at the Lake City Presbyterian Church was filled with happy people who came to honor Grand Esther Lorna Burns and to celebrate the other four - Grand Adah Mary Helen Johnson, Grand Ruth Anita Borst, Grand Martha Helen Collins and Grand Electa Ann Taylor.

The luncheon was delicious and the company superb.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

Last night Terry and I traveled to Bethel Chapter in Granite Falls and I was pleased to be able to give the commission of Grand Representative to WM Kathleen Bechler. I had 5 contestants for my quiz show and Grand Sentinel Bob Breza was the official scorekeeper. Each contestant won a prize, but Kathleen got the most questions right and was awarded the Grand Prize.

She was excited and a little tearful. After the cheering calmed down Bryan called Kathleen's mom and while she was on speaker phone I told her what I had done. She was thrilled for Kathleen and sorry that she wasn't there - she is a 60+ year member. Her comment to Kathleen was "That's a long way away"!

A fun Valentine's meeting and a good ending to a good evening.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE OF MICHIGAN

It was my pleasure at the reception for the Grand Secretary on Saturday, February 5th to surprise Brother Robert Shaw, Associate patron of Welcome Chapter #40, with his commission as the new Grand Representative of Michigan.
Bob is a quiet kind of guy who just turns his hand to anything and is very dependable. This commission is richly deserved and I'm sure you will all welcome him into his new position as a Grand Representative.

OV Date change

The OV for Crystal, Laurel and Southgate Chapters has been changed to February 21st.  It will still be at Crystal Chapter in Enumclaw and the time is the same.

2011 - Feb 2 OV Kirkland & Lakeside and New GR announced

Over 80 members gathered in Kirkland on Wednesday as WGM Linda with WGP Dick had the official visit of Kirkland and Lakeside Chapters.

WM Paula Sonker and WP PT Ralph Omholt, then WP Ron Moll of Kirkland did a great job of opening, introductions and getting the business of the chapter handled.

Under Good of the Order, Assoc. Gr. Conductress Stephanie Hoye approached the East to announce the two people who will serve as chairmen of her session.  She pointed out that the people in this position must be organized, creative, flexible, good leaders and self starters.  Both of her chairmen have those qualities.  The first one announced was Paula Sonker - current WM of Kirkland Chapter. 

The second chairman announced was Dianna Kaspar - current Secretary of Kirkland Chapter.  After the excitement of these announcements died down, Stephanie also announced that Dianna was the new Grand Representative of Massachusetts in Washington.  Shock and tears followed as she was given her new pin and the necessary paperwork.  She and her Kirkland travel mates are already planning a trip to Massachusetts Grand Chapter in May.

When the excitement died down, WM Joanne Bornstine and WP Ralph Omholt and their officers did a beautiful job exemplifying the Golden Chain.

It was a wonderful evening and everyone had a great time.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE OF MINNESOTA

Grand Adah, Mary Helen Johnson traveled to Montesano Chapter on Tuesday, February 1st to present the Grand Representative of Minnesota commission to Dolores Hagethorn. This was Friends Night and the last chapter meeting before their merger into Centralia Chapter on February 11th.

Sad News

Joan Kershner passed away this evening at her home in Medical Lake.   She had been under the care of hospice and her family for the last few months.  Joan was a Past Matron of Spokane Chapter, Past Guiding Angel Deputy, Former Grand Representative and Past Friend of a Feather for MWGM Barbara Benton.

Arrangements are pending.  Please keep Joan's friends and family in your thoughts and prayers.

Places to be

The place to be on Tuesday, February 1st is Montesano Chapter; it is also their Friends’ Night and their last meeting. Since this is their last meeting before their merger, it would be great to see lots of people there to support them.

The place to be on Wednesday, February 2nd is Kirkland & Lakeside Chapters Official Visit. Something fun might happen at their OV.

Hands Across the Border

Hands Across the Border Exchange, May 7, 2011 -

Time is of the essence for room reservations for Friday night, May 6, 2011.

It is unfortunate that we were able to block only 25 rooms for Friday night. We met with Kendra Hindman on May 1, 2010, and requested 75 rooms for Friday night. However, they are booked full and the best she could offer was only 25 rooms for Friday night. Some of their bookings are 3 years out.... into 2013.

If you wish to reserve a room at the Coeur d'Alene Casino for Friday night, you need to call NOW and reserve. Below is the invitation and information that will be mailed to the Chapters within the next few days. The mailing to the Chapters will include a Dinner Reservation Form.

The Grand Chapters of Alberta, British Columbia & Yukon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington are meeting once again for our annual “Hands Across the Border” International Exchange on May 7, 2010 at the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel at Worley, Idaho (25 miles south of Coeur d’Alene on Old Highway 95).

The Hosting Grand Jurisdiction this year is Montana. WGM Margo Hellickson and WGP Rich Ransdell would like to invite you to attend for an evening of a delicious meal, fun, fellowship and renewing old acquaintances.

This is strictly a social get-together. Theme for the evening will be “Circles of Life”, with a touch of “western”. Dress for the evening will be your best denim duds (ladies – skirts please – no slacks or pants).

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel under the name of “Eastern Star”. The room rate is $62.95 + 7% Tribal Tax ($67.36) per night, single or double occupancy, for Standard and Deluxe Rooms: 2 Queen or 1 King Beds, Non Smoking/Smoking. This special rate will apply for Friday and Saturday nights. Rooms will be held at this rate until 2 weeks prior (April 22, 2011) to this event. Any rooms remaining in the block that have not been assigned will be released and reservations made after this date will be at the normal rate and depend on availability. Please make your reservations early as the hotel was booked full and we were blocked for only 25 rooms on Friday night and 125 rooms on Saturday night. Reservations may be made by calling reservations toll free at 1-800-523-2464. Check-in time is after 4:00 p.m.; Checkout is 11:00 a.m. All times are PDT.

RV parking is available across the old highway. With the on-going construction, this location is subject to change and may or may not have water and electricity.

An afternoon program will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m., PDT, featuring Service Dogs. “Noah’s Team of Montana” with Lynn Engum, Team Leader, affiliated with Canine Assistants out of Milton, GA, will be giving a presentation. Each team has a C.A.S.E. Dog (Canine Assistants Special Educator) who serves as an ambassador. They will be bringing one or more dogs with this presentation who are graduates or dogs in-training. Canine Assistants is an exciting program which takes advantage of the generosity of volunteers to educate people about how service dogs assist children and adults who have physical disabilities, seizure disorders, and other special needs. They may also have a display table for their fund raising products. You won’t want to miss this.

Dinner check-in will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a no-host social hour at 5:00 p.m. Dinner will start at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011. All times are PDT.

The dinner will be a “Land Lover” buffet selection with 2 meat entrees:
• Chanterelle crusted chicken breast with sherry cream sauce and fresh thyme
• Prime Rib

Served with the following:
• Caesar salad with parmesan, romaine hearts, and creamy garlic dressing
• Roast corn-macaroni salad
• Waldorf salad with apples, walnuts, celery and creamy dressing
• Honey-orange glazed baby carrots
• Roasted garlic mashed potatoes
• Dinner rolls with creamy butter
• Deep dish apple with spiced sweet cream

Cost for the dinner is $30.00 per person (US funds) and includes the gratuity. Dinner Reservation deadline is April 18, 2011. No refunds after April 18 unless there is a substitute/alternate. No Late Reservations Accepted. There will be No complimentary dinners. Merger announcement

The ceremony of the merger of Montesano Chapter into Centralia Chapter will take place at the Centralia Masonic Center on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 7:30 pm.  Please join the Chapters as they come together.

2011 - Jan 22 Snohomish Co Association Dinner and Auction

The Snohomish Masonic Center dining room was festive and full as everyone gathered for the annual dinner and auction.  The dinner was delicious and Steve Morgan did a great job as our auctioneer.  The prizes were wonderful and everyone had a really great time.

2011 - 01-22 NW PDI Luncheon

The Northwest Past Deputies enjoyed a delicious lunch honoring WGM Linda with WGP Dick at Occidental Chapter in Ballard on Saturday.   Afterwards they had a regular meeting in the Chapter room.  Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the friendship and fun.

2011 - Jan 21 OV Stanwood and Afton

(Unofficial count) 113 members crowded the Chapter room at Stanwood for the official visit of WGM Linda with WGP Dick to Stanwood and Afton Chapters.

WM Jennie Kelly and WP and PGP Wayne Mouat of Stanwood did a great job of leading their officers in opening and introductions. Then WM and WP Donna and Don Severen of Afton Chapter took over and with their officers did a beautiful job of exemplifying the Golden Chain.

It was a very special night for everyone as WGM Linda was given the privilege of presenting a 75 year pin to Sister Helen Starr. Helen was given the Grand Honors and a standing ovation.

The Special Angels for the Chapters were Alice McDonough for Afton and Mary Coombs for Stanwood. When asked if she would be at the event honoring the Special Angels at Grand Chapter, Mary informed everyone that she had to stay home and take care of her dog!

All in all, it was a wonderful and fun evening for everyone.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE OF ALBERTA

Thursday (January 20th) night at Adelphi Chapter in Spokane I was pleased to announce Darrell Burnett as the Grand Representative of Alberta in Washington. It was a great fun evening as Pete Peterson (former Grand Representative of Alberta) and I tried to find the Adelphi member who had the best Canadian "a". Darrell was the winner.

New Grand Representative of Connecticut!!

I had the pleasure of announcing Amelia Coffman as the new Grand Representative to Connecticut in Washington this evening at Guiding Star Chapter. I appeared as the angel “Mercy” sent by Gabriel on a mission. Amelia was totally shocked and thrilled as her daughter, Sister Peggy Mills, pinned her. There was a nice turnout despite there being a Friend’s Night at Lewis Chapter.

Prayers needed

Our Grand Ruth Anita Borst could use some booster prayers right now.   Here's what she says.

Hello Everyone,

This is just an update which it seems to me is the same each month!  I am in a real low period.

My white and red Blood counts are almost bottomed out.  I seem to just have enough energy to walk from the couch to the kitchen.  The doctor just says don't worry, you do this every 10 day cycle after Chemo and you always come back up again in time to be hit with the next treatment.  I have sores in my mouth and nose.  I made a mistake last week and asked the dentist assistant if I could use some teeth whitener.  She gave me some so I went home and used it once.  I now have blisters on my gums along with everything else!!  What a nightmare.

My last treatment is the 24th of January.  I will never use whitener again.....

New Grand Representative of Florida

Frank had a  lot of fun to making the presentation of Grand Representative of Florida to Rae McIntire at Cedar Chapter Jan. 13, 2011

Frank had LaNita pass out candy to all the Officers, but a special Orange Chocolate Ball was given to Rae McIntire.  Then Frank asked LaNita for the Choc. Orange and she said she gave it to one of the officers.  LaNita asked who got the Choc. Orange and Rae said she did so LaNita asked her to take it to Frank in the East and Frank said he would trade that orange for what was in an envelope.  When she opened the envelope Rae did not know what to say so Frank introduced her as the new Grand Representative of Florida in Washington.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

The weather guesser took the message of "the place to be" and showed in force on Wednesday, January 12. As a result the attendance at Evergreen was small, but the presentation was made. Grand Chaplain Harold Hill with the assistance of WGM Linda and Escort Jack sat on a fake pile of snow with the aim of telling a story as soon as the "tale could be told!" As a result the new Grand Representative is Nick Goddard representing New Brunswick.

Zesta Limbo Memorial Service

Zesta Limbo, former Grand Representative of Kansas, passed away on January 11th. Her memorial service will be Saturday, January 15th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1535 Washington Ave, Enumclaw. Please keep Ray (former Grand Representative of Arizona) and the rest of the family in your thoughts and prayers.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

Alice Hughes, Grand Warder traveled to Malden Chapter on Monday, January 10th to present the Grand Representative of British Columbia & Yukon commission to Gregg Burns. He is currently serving as WP so is listed in the 2010-11 Blue Book.

2011 - Jan 10 - OV Trinity and Olympia

Over 80 members had a wonderful time in Tumwater at the official visit of WGM Linda with WGP Dick to Trinity and Olympia Chapters. 

WM & WP Sue and Kevin Watson of Trinity Chapter led their officers in a great opening and through introductions, then quickly dispatched with the regular business of the Chapter.  Then WM Fawn Hacker and WP Larry Wilkinson of Olympia Chapter led their officers through a beautiful Golden Chain. 

The Chapters were delighted with the choices for Special Angels - Karin Lawson of Trinity and Norma Jean Roberts of Olympia. 

After the meeting we all enjoyed delicious treats - including "that damned salad" that Fawn is so famous for.

2011 - Jan 8 - Reception for Grand Marshal Karin Whipple

It was cold outside, but the atmosphere at the Scottish Rite Center in Shoreline was filled with warmth and friendship as members, family and friends came together to honor our Grand Marshal Karin Whipple. 

The Forget-me-not Deputy Instructors prepared and served a delicious lunch and then the officers of Greenwood Chapter, led by WM & WP Flo and Jerry Wilkins introduced almost everyone in the packed Chapter room.  Since Karin is known for tearing up at the slightest thing, the Grand Officers all presented tissues, handkerchiefs or things related to crying.

Responses were given by WGM Linda, WGP Dick, GGCCM & PGP Brian Gross, PGM Kit Wells and PGP Dennis Okicich.  The Past Grand Marshals (10 were present) fought over who should be the mystery speaker, but AGC Stephanie Hoye won out and, wearing her favorite "Oh, by the way.." t-shirt, she proceeded to give Karin advice on being Grand Marshal and presented her with a homemade portable tissue holder for use at Grand Chapter.

Afterwards everyone enjoyed delicious refreshments in the dining room.

2011 - Jan 5 - OV Occidental & Greenwood

73 members gathered to ring in the New Year with the Official Visit of WGM Linda Runyan with WGP Dick Weigel to Occidental and Greenwood Chapters.  WM & WP Pat and Bruno Zittlau of Occidental lead their officers through opening and introductions, then WM & WP Flo and Jerry Wilkins of Greenwood took over as their officers exemplified the Golden Chain.  Jobs well done by all.

It was a special night for Joan Breda as WGM Linda presented her with her 50 year pin and certificate and she received the grand honors for reaching this wonderful milestone.  Joan also presented her daughter with her life membership in honor of the occasion. 

Special Angels for the night were Irma Mathisen from Occidental and Tim Hall from Greenwood.  Both are hard workers for their Chapters and very deserving of the honors.

Afterward everyone enjoyed refreshments in the dining hall.

Prayers needed for Joan Kershner

I just received this from Vicki Chamberlain.  Joan was one of our Guiding Angel Deputies, a Former Grand Representative and a Friend of a Feather for PMWGM Barbara Benton.  She really needs our thoughts and prayers now.

To OES, Rainbow and Amaranth Friends,

It is with a sad heart that I write this e-mail.  Joan was moved from St Joseph’s Care Center to her home with Hospice care today.  She wanted nothing more than to go home.  She isn’t interested in more therapy, or tests, or medication – she just wants the doctors to control her pain and let her go home.  She has stated that she is ready to join John, the love of her life, and as her daughter Mikie told me, it’s time to do what Mom wants to do, not what we want her to do or keep asking her to do.  The kids are hopeful that she might rally and do better at home.  Often times, that is what happens in a case like this, but there will be no more cancer treatments or the surgery she needs to cure her cancer.

The doctor at St. Joe’s told the family, that there isn’t really any one thing that has caused Joan to go downhill so fast, but rather a multitude of “wrecks”.  A young person can rally back from 2 – 3 wrecks and keep going just fine, a 76 year old has much more trouble coming back.  Joan has undergone chemo therapy, radiation, 2 bouts of pneumonia, an infection in her port that has been likened to TB and will take at least 6 months of antibiotics to cure (which cause her to be very sick), urinary tract infections caused from the antibiotics, and a fall this summer that broke 3 vertebrae and have caused her to be in extreme back pain.  Way too many wrecks….

Joan’s daughter Mikie asked me to let you all know that any of her friends are welcome to visit.  She brightens up anytime someone comes to see her.  She is weak and tires quickly, but a quick visit to tell her you love her, might be just what you and she needs.  If you have not seen her in the last month, she is very frail, her memory comes and goes, and she has lost a lot of weight. Her appearance has changed and Mikie wanted me to make sure everyone knows that.  Don’t let that keep you from visiting her. Her home phone is not working right now, but should be in the next few days.  Her cell phone doesn’t work at home.

“No one can affirm that another year or even a single day will be committed to our trust”.  Pray for comfort for Joan and her family.  God has a plan, and only he knows when we will go home.

2010 - December - Bethel #5, IOJD, in Edmonds Installation

Bethel #5 in Edmonds had a wonderful installation in December.  14 girls were installed in offices and the room was packed with supporters and friends.  The Bethel is growing and they are looking forward to a wonderful new year.

Analia Chapter held its annual Holiday Tea and the room was overflowing with friends, fun and delicious food.  The Chapter members each decorated a table with their own dishes and decor from home.  WM Sheila Shreve was thrilled with the outcome and everyone had a great time.

Sad News

PGM, Joanne Clark had a massive heart attack and passed away yesterday, December 25, 2010. She was in Oregon visiting family for the Christmas holidays. No other details are available at this time.

2010 - Dec 17 - Pierce Thurston PM & PP Luncheon

The Tacoma Elks was packed as the Past Matrons and Past Patrons of Pierce Thurston helped the Grand Family celebrate Christmas.  The lunch was delicious and the fellowship was terrific.  Nancy O'Neil did a fantastic job of entertaining everyone.

2010 - Dec 12 - WW Grand Representatives Club Luncheon

The Grand Representatives - former and present welcomed the Grand Family and their escorts and several other guests to the Tacoma Elks for a delicious luncheon Sunday afternoon.  There were almost 100 people present and the food and company were both excellent.

Entertainment was provided by Charlie's Angels - ably led by Cheryl McMahon and everyone had a wonderful time visiting and eating.

2010 - Dec 7 Whatcom Co PM & PP Luncheon

The food was delicious, the company delightful and the entertainment fantastic at the annual luncheon honoring the WGM and WGP and hosted by the Whatcom County PM and PPs.  President Bev Baller kept everything moving.  The meal was plentiful and yummy.

The Bellingham High School Swing Choir entertained us for the 24th year and they were amazing.  So many very talented young people who obviously enjoy what they are doing. 

Everyone had a wonderful time and we look forward to going back next year.

2010 - Dec 4 - Reception for Grand Organist Pamela Lee

The hills were alive with the sound of music in Bremerton as members and friends gathered to celebrate Grand Organist Pamela Lee.  The Grand Officers all gave her items that related to family and her grandaughter since they are so important to her. 

Responses were given by PGP & GGCCM Brian Gross, PGM Sylvia Palmer substituting for PGM Marge Ramsdell, PGP Tom Schenewerk substituting for PGP Dennis Okicich (even putting on a fake white beard to add more realism to the response), and Grand Secretary Sandra Henry for the Grand Officers.

Delicious treats in the dining room topped off a wonderful afternoon.

2010 - Dec 6 - OV Guiding Star and Naomi

(Unofficial count) 88 members had a great time at the official visit of WGM Linda with WGP Dick at Guiding Star and Naomi Chapters held in Puyallup. There was a delicious baked potato dinner for a donation before the meeting.



WM Michelle Burlison and WP Roscoe Cox of Guiding Star and their officers did a great job of opening and introductions.  Then WM Laura Vogel and WP PT Warren Hartle and their officers performed a beautiful Golden Chain.  

















An officer from the Puyallup Police Department gave everyone some good advice for staying safe during the holiday shopping frenzy.  We all had a great time and lots of laughter.

2010 - Nov 27-28 - Analia Chapter Follow the Stars Craft Fair

The Edmonds Masonic Center was filled to capacity with vendors, shoppers and eaters for the annual Follow the Stars Arts and Crafts fair on Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.  The weather was perfect and everyone was happy to be out of the house. 

Analia Chapter sponsored the event and manned the bake sale table.  Doric Chapter ran the Starlight Cafe providing delicious eats for all the hungry shoppers and had a booth in the craft fair.  The Daughters of the Nile, Badoura Club and Northwest Evening Group also sold their wares and the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine participated with their own booth.

Bethel #57 in Kirkland sold beautiful holiday wreaths as a fund raiser.  There were over 50 vendors and it was a wonderful afternoon.

2010 - Nov 21 - Adah Club Luncheon

The dining room at the Washougal Masonic Center was full of friendship and fun as the Adah Club honored the current Grand Adah Mary Helen Johnson of Henry Wentworth and Martha Washington Chapters.  PGM and Past Grand Adah Gerry Shafer did a wonderful job of presiding over the meeting.  The luncheon was delicious and everyone had a wonderful time before driving home in the snow!

2010 - Nov 20 - Reception for Grand Adah, Mary Helen Johnson

The Masonic Center at Washougal was packed with members, friends and family for the reception honoring Grand Adah Mary Helen Johnson of Henry Wentworth and Martha Washington Chapters.  There were 13 past Grand Adahs including one from Oregon and the current Grand Adah of Oregon Barbara Collins. 

Mary Helen's family was out in force to help celebrate her special day although many of the grandchildren decided the luncheon was enough and went home before the reception. 

Sheran Parker did a beautiful job of singing accompanied by Grand Organist Pamela Lee.  Responses were given by PGM Gerry Shafer for the GGCCM, PGMs Ann Gates and Cheri Moll doing a dual response for the PGMs, PGP Brian Gross, and the wonderful mystery speaker - Grand Warder Alice Hughes. 

Afterwards there were delicious refreshments in the dining room, then we all got dressed in the dark!

2010 - Nov 19 - OV Chehalis, Centralia and Maple

Unofficial count - 123 members gathered in Chehalis for the official visit of WGM Linda Runyan with WGP Dick Weigel of Chehalis, Centralia and Maple Chapters.  Prior to the meeting there was a dinner for a donation with the Chapter members showing their culinary skills making delicious homemade soups - perfect for a cold night.

WM Doris Tibbits and WP Bill Hollifield of Chehalis did a great job of leading their officers through opening and introductions.  Then WM Jeanette Miller and WP Ray Berrian of Centralia lead their officers in a wonderful rendition of the Golden Chain.  WM Vera White and WP Dale Ashley and their officers closed out the evening in superb fashion.

Afterwards there were yummy refreshments and warm fellowship in the dining hall.

2010 - Oct 13 - DI HN Dian Breece, Maple Chapter

Everyone had a great time at Dian Breece's Honor Night.  She is the Sparkler Deputy Instructor from Maple Chapter in Castle Rock.  There was a great turnout of members, her family and friends.  Gale Moore played the flute to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star but she had a Hawaiian Rendention with bracelets that lit up.   It was spectular when the lights were turned off.   Everyone waved the braclets to the music.  What a great time!

2010 - 11-13 Reception for Gr. Cond Gerry Mosler

What a great afternoon it was for everyone who attended the receptio for Grand Conductress Gerry mosler at the Lake City Presbyterian Church in Seattle.  LaNita Pascoe started the frivolity when she responded for Terry Mosler at the luncheon.  Be sure to ask Terry to model his new hats and show you his blue bass.

The sanctuary was packed with members and friends.  Gerry gave a fantastic speech about her history and had a great turn out of Conductresses to introduce.  Responses were given by the WGM and WGP, GGCCM Brian Gross, PGM Bev Haave, PGP Bill Hammontree, Gr. Conductress of BC and Yukon Jacqui Wowk, and the mystery speaker AGP Frank Pascoe. 

Afterwards, we all enjoyed delicious treats in the dining room.  It was a wonderful afternoon.

2010 - Nov 6 - BOW Exchange

What a wonderful time we had at the BOW exchange this year at the Medallion Hotel in Smokey Point.  There was so much laughter and fun and delicious food and great company.  Next year everyone should come and join us. Below are links to pictures taken by Rodger Collins and with my camera.

2010 - Oct 30 - GR HN - Lara Peterson, Lakeside

We all had a great time at the Costume Party that doubled as an honor night for Lara Peterson, Grand Representative of Ontario in Washington at Lakeside Chapter in Bellevue.  There was a great turnout of members, Lara's family and friends to celebrate the occasion and the costumes were fabulous.

Sad News

Past Grand Matron Anne Hendrex passed away last Friday afternoon.  Per her request, there will be no services.

More Prayers needed!

From last night:

Well today has been a hard day. Anne suffered a major stroke this morning about 6 AM. It has left her right side paralyzed. She is very unresponsive. She does squeeze her daughter's, Anne, hand when asked most of the time. Both of her daughters are here now. They are disappointed that they will not be able to take her back to Omak so she could be there when the time comes. It is just a waiting game at this point.

Both Joy and Babe stopped by this afternoon. Tonight Jodie Desrosier and Carol Gaston were down to spend the evening. I spent the morning then went back after lunch to try to relieve Anne, the daughter. I went back this evening to see if they needed anything.

I will stop by in the morning. I will be going to Bellevue tomorrow as we are responding for Lara Peterson. Anne, the daughter, will call me if there is a change. If I am not at my computer, I will give Don Beck a call and he can get any news out to the group.

Tonight we need prayers for peace for Anne. She is ready to go. She wants to go.

2010 - Oct 27 - OV Century

About 50 members ventured to Issaguah for the official visit of WGM Linda with WGP Dick to Century Chapter.

WM Mary Harper and WP Ron Hayes did a great job of leading their officers through the meeting.

 

Sister Florence Harper was named Special Angel of Century Chapter.

The officers, members and visitors all had a wonderful time.

2010 - Oct 26 - OV Doric

About 60 members gathered in Fremont for the official visit of WGM Linda to Doric Chapter.  Five members from Oregon's Friendship Rose Chapter traveled north in costumes to help celebrate the season.

The officer's of Doric, lead by WM Linda Hayes and WP Don McAmmond, did a great job of opening and introductions and conducting their business.

The Grand Officers were happy to be there for a night of fun.

Sue Putnam was named Doric's Special Angel.

It was a wonderful evening, enjoyed by all.
