Help Wanted!

We are looking for some people that would like to be on the Evergreen News committee, specifically we need an Editor and Co-Editor.  Those doing it now have been on the committee for several years and do not care to go on next year, which is understandable. They would be willing to lend some assistance to whoever takes over.  The one hurdle is that the Evergreen News is done in Publisher, which is a wonderful program if you know how to use it.

Please contact me if you would like to serve on this committee.

Thank you,

Gerry Mosler

Sad news - update

Services for Grace Lindal, (Kathy’s granddaughter) will be at 6 pm on Friday, December 9th at the First Presbyterian Church in Everett, 2936 Rockefeller Ave (cross street is Wall).

The family has requested attire for the memorial service to be cheerful and upbeat (no black). Also in lieu of flowers the family will be setting up a program through the Boeing Credit Union that will benefit the G.R.A.C.I.E. Fund for the Everett School District for their reading assistance program. Information regarding contributions to the fund and complete details are pending and will be available soon.

From Cheri Moll:
Although Grace had been declared brain dead yesterday morning she was still on the ventilator to keep her breathing because of the request to be an organ donor. There were a couple of evaluations that needed to be done by the doctors and certain levels in the body that needed to be reached before they could take the organs. Unfortunately Grace’s heart stopped beating at 2:51 this morning and because of that and a number of other medical complications she is not going to be able to be an organ donor.

Please continue to keep the family in your prayers.

Sad News

Dear Friends,
Thank you for your prayers for Grace Lindall, but God had other plans for her.  She has been declared brain dead and will now be helping others by giving her organs so others may live.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers!

PRAYERS NEEDED!

From Cheri Moll:

Kathy Neubecker’s granddaughter Grace, age 8, is in ICU at Harborview Hospital and is not expected to live. She needs all the prayers you have.

Grace has a blood disorder called ITP, which involves two processes, the destruction of existing platelets and the inadequate production of platelets.

She was unresponsive yesterday morning so they called the aid car and they were on the way to Children’s but the EMT’s decided that she needed to get to a hospital sooner so they took her to Swedish in Mountlake Terrace and from there, after a CT scan, took her directly to Harborview. Her platelet count was very low and they immediately put her on an IV of a medication to increase the count. The scan reveled that there was bleeding on the brain and the doctors said that she needed surgery, but the platelet count needed to be up around 80,000 to 100,000 in order to operate. Late last night the count was at 150,000 so they performed the surgery, which was to drill 2 holes in her head to drain the fluid. Because of the location of the blood clot, deep center of the brain, they were not able to operate on it. The surgeons were hopeful following the surgery and said that everything went as planned, for the drainage, and that she would need to stay in the hospital for around 10 days.

Around midnight Kathy called to say that the eyes were not responding to light and that they were going to run some tests. She called me at 4:30 this morning to say that Grace was still alive but that they don’t think that she will make it through the day.

2011 - Dec 3 - CORE Fun Night

What a great time we all had on Saturday, Dec 3rd at the Lake City Elks as the Way Past Their Prime Time Players had us all laughing and singing along with their star studded show.

Ed Sullivan (who looked suspiciously like Don McAmmond) served as master of ceremonies and we were entertained by Willie Nelson, The Supremes, Sonny and Cher,  Karen Carpenter, Dolly Parton, Elvis, The Big Bopper, The Village People, Madonna, Abba and George Strait.

The desserts were delicious and the entertainment fabulous.  Here's hoping they do this again!

Sad News from Belfair/Waconda

Message from Kathy Hutton, daughter of Margaret & Bill Pollak ~
To all friends and family, Margaret Pollak (born March 25, 1928, in Ohid, Hungary) was admitted to the hospital on November 18th after choking on apple pie. Her heart stopped and she was revived but there was still apple in her lungs. The doctors didn’t think she would make it that night, but Mom being stubborn and feisty, hung on until the night of Nov. 22nd, when she peacefully passed on to be with her husband Bill. Margaret & Bill were Worthy Matron & Worthy Patron of Waconda #217 in 2003-04 and traveled widely throughout the state to represent their chapter and Eastern Star. When Waconda merged with Belfair in April 2008, Margaret became a member of Belfair #241, but moved to Longview within the year to be near her daughter Kathy. Information about services and where to send condolences will be posted shortly.

PRAYERS NEEDED!!!

Tuesday November 22, 2011 update after talking with Doctor.

MRI is negative for the scan of her spine. Great news. This has been categorized as stage 4 Breast cancer, as it has traveled to the brain. The best treatment is exactly what we are doing right now. We still must wait for the final pathology report on the lymph nodes that were taken, however Dr. said that initial report shows negative for lymphoma.

The doctor and I have talked with mom and explained several things, with this said, Mom is in very good spirits this morning and seems to be getting stronger by the day. Thanksgiving for us will be right here so Don and I with the help of my brothers (they don't know it yet) will be smuggling in good food for Mom.

Just saw this from Lynette Zierden of Grand Coulee Dam Chapter about her mom Carole Fisher.

Mom is in the hospital in Spokane Sacred heart . She has started radiation for several lesions in the brain, and is still undergoing testing. yesterday they discovered a couple of lymph nodes in the center breast bone area and one under her left arm that appear to be affected. This somewhat indicates that the cancer may be in the breast area again and traveled to the brain. There is also a nodule on her thyroid and a aneurysm in her stomach area.

Today she will have a bone scan and another MRI in the spine and back area. At this point I believe they are looking for every place the cancer may have traveled too. I will try to keep everyone up to date when I can.

Prayers needed,
Lynette

New Grand Representative

I had the pleasure to travel to Henry Wentworth Chapter on Nov 16th to present Penny Norvell the commission as Grand Representative to the Grand Chapter of Australia. As I walked down from the east and part way around the room, I sang the first lines of several state songs. The members assisted by shouting “NO – That’s Not It. TRY AGAIN!” after each one until I sang, “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, sport”. The shout was “Hurray, THAT’S IT”. Thanks to Robin Jessup, for directing them. As I neared the east, I sang, “Waltzing with Penny” and escorted her to the podium. I’m not sure when Penny realized what was happening! There were about 52 people in attendance and PGM Beverly Haave (Former GR to Australia) was there to offer special congratulations to the new Grand Representative. It was the end to a fun meeting.

King County Traveling Gavel News

On October 18th Greenwood Chapter held the October meeting celebrating their birthday, honoring the 5 year Past Matron and Patron, and Galloping Gavel. Worthy Matron Linda Mock and Worthy Patron Tim Hall welcomed all. The meeting was highlighted by the parading of the birthday cake and a trip down Memory lane with PM Beth Eng, Bill Shortt and Tim Hall. The three chapters contesting for the gavel were Amethyst, Analia and Rada Uphus. The King County Galloping Gavel rules  state that there must be 10 or more chapter members present before opening concludes.

Amethyst had 10 members, Analia had 9 (only 8 counted) and Rada Uphus had 9, arriving after opening concluded. Therefore, Amethyst Chapter was the winner!   Worthy Matron Gayle Dunston and Worthy Patron Norman Horst were elated.   Norm had made the case for the gavel years ago so it was a double pleasure to see it again! The October 25th meeting at Amethyst is the Official Visit of the  Worthy Grand Matron so the gavel will not be available for claiming until the November 22nd meeting. We will celebrate with the Initiation of FOUR new  members. Please join us at Alki Masonic Center for this happy event.

New Grand Representative

Following a nice initiation of Aleisha Green I took a few minutes to play a word anagram game - being assisted by several members spelling some words using the letters T,E,A, & S - then I had Lu Stephens hold the letter "X" and placed the other letters around her to spell the word TEXAS. It was my great pleasure to be able to present Sister Louella "Lu" Stephens the commission as Grand Representative of Texas in Washington. Sister Lu is already looking ahead to July when she can attend Grand Chapter in Beaumont. It was nice to have Mary Kingsbury there, who resigned the Texas commission at midnight on October 4th. With Mary was her sister Cornelia, with her who was up here from Texas to attend Mary's honor night on Monday. Presenting the commission was a great way to end a very nice meeting. Thanks to all who came to make the evening special for our newest member and the newest Grand Representative.

Update on Goldendale Fire

Here's an update on the fire from Linda Runyan via June Lee:

Dear Ones,

Received a call from Linda this evening, as we were returning home  from Gerry's reception. She and Jack were at Harold's for supper.   Linda said they are still on the alert list, but not on the high alert
list. There is a great deal of smoke at their place, but not so much at Harold's.

The one thing Linda wanted to report is that Lucky McGaughy's home did not burn up. It was eye witnessed that it was burning, but that was the wrong house.

Linda said they should be okay, if there continues to be no wind, so tuck that in your prayers. She sounded good and hopeful, as her faith is strong.

Bunny Hugs & Lots of Love,
June

Prayers are needed!

We need to say prayers and send good thoughts to our friends in Goldendale.  Jack and Linda Runyan are not far from the fire and have already moved their horse and some other belongings to Harold's house for safekeeping.  Lucky McGaughey (one of this year's deputies) has been evacuated and may have lost her home.  They won't let her back in to see yet.  Plus, we know of other Stars who have friends and relatives in the area who have lost their homes.

Keep those prayers and good thoughts coming!

Washington OES website - update!

Just wanted to give you an update on the progress of the official website www.washingtonoes.org.

Last year was a transitional year for the site.  Our Chairman Joan Kershner's illness and eventual passing was a big blow to the committee and we didn't have the opportunity to carry out our plans.

We have regrouped and under our new chairman - Vicki Voorhees - are hard at work redesigning, streamlining and modernizing the site.  We have made a lot of progress and should be ready to transition to the new site sometime in mid August.  The web address will be the same and we will still use the blog for breaking news, invitations, photo albums and general announcements.

The old site will stay up until the new one is ready so you will still have access to the forms and links to the Chapters and other jurisdictions.

We value your opinions about the site and would be happy to have any feedback you want to give us going forward. The email for the website is waoesweb@gmail.com

Thank you for your patience during this transition!

First OV - July 16th

The first OV was held in a very packed house at Crystal Chapter in Enumclaw.  There wasn't a chair left in the dining room by the time we finished stealing them all.  This year WGM Gloria is honoring the "worker bees" from each Chapter and Don and LaNita stole the show in their bee hats.  Everyone was thrilled with the exciting and suspensful announcement of Neil Glessing of Key City Chapter as the new Grand Representative of Montana.  Grand Adah Cindy Schneider did a great job of rounding him up with the aid of Chuck and Mary Callen.

It was a very fun afternoon and we are looking forward to a great year.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

This has been a long time coming. The Grand Chapter Office received the information for this commission at the same time the recipient was moving from Sequim to Montesano. It took a while to track down the person but this afternoon I had the pleasure of visiting Elisabeth Haubrick at her new home and presenting to her the commission to the Grand Chapter of Saskatchewan. She was delighted to have the official word. Her counterpart wrote her long before we received the information in the State’s.

If anyone down in that area will be attending Grand Chapter and could give a ride to Elisabeth she would love to go to Grand Chapter as her counterpart will be attending our Grand Chapter. Also, if you need a roommate let her know as I don’t believe she has made any arrangements. Phone: 360-249-2133 Email: hbhaubrick@yahoo.com

Congratulations can be sent to:

Elisabeth Haubrick

Box 36 Old Beacon Road

Montesano WA 98563

Angel hugs,

Pamela Lee, Grand Organist
